    2012 Oct Plugin Sales Discussion : Volt 2,961 ; Leaf 1,579

I think the saving is more substancial than that. In addition, gasoline is roughly USD 10 per gallon. We have (free) public charging stations over most of the country - over 500 just in Oslo. Also, electric cars do not pay highway tolls, go free on ferrys, and we can drive in the bus lanes!

    2012 Oct Plugin Sales Discussion : Volt 2,961 ; Leaf 1,579

Some news from Norway: The Nissan Leaf is now number 13 on the car sales statistics for the entire country, up from number 16 last month.

    Extension cord for trickle charging?

Just to confirm: it is the plug and socket which is important. That is where most of the problems occur - especially after a while if the surface has become a bit oxidized or corroded. Therefore, put your hand around it once in a while to check it does not get hot, and replace every few years...

    Remote Climate Control Failed

I get an error message when I try to switch on the climate if the EVSE is plugged into the car, but there is no voltage in the wall socket.

Why are most LEAF owners so unpleasant???-

Guys and gals: Suggest less person-focus! It's a lot more interesting to discuss the Leaf!

Your touch screen has obviously been possessed by an evil spirit, with a spell cast by the driver of a gas powered car!

    July Plugin Sales : Leaf 395, Volt 1849, PIP 688, FFE 38

No, all political parties are in agreement (!) that these things should be free for EVs. However, quite a few people complain about the price of gas/Diesel (about USD 10 per gallon, and we're one of the biggest producers of oil in the world) and the registration tax for gas/Diesel cars. One of...

    July Plugin Sales : Leaf 395, Volt 1849, PIP 688, FFE 38

The VW Golf varies from approx. USD 38k to USD 48k - including sales tax. The Leaf is USD 44k (no sales tax applicable). However, a gallon of gas is about USD 10 (!), which is pretty significant. Also, for electric vehicles all tunnels, national ferries and road tolls are free. I know of...

Hello from the Netherlands! Buying a used LEAF, need advice.

Hi there, We have thousands of Leafs in Norway, and a few are imported from the USA. I don't know if that's where your seller is? In that case, please be aware: 1) The GPS system will not work / difficult and expensive to upgrade. 2) The telematics system (switching charging and A/C on/off)...

Fast Low Cost Charging - All EVSE Questions Answered!

The voltage (Volt) is the "pressure" available for pressing electrons into the charger. :) (This depends on the electricity supply.) The current (Ampère) is the flow of electrons into the charger. The charger determines this. The power (kilowatts or kW) is obtained by multiplying the current...

People in the street, and the shape of the Leaf

All my life I've had "good solid German cars" - Mercedes-Benz and Volkwagen. I've even got three (!) VW Golf CityStromers EVs! When I wanted to buy a new car, being an electronic engineer, I looked at all the specifications, and the choice of avaiable cars, and without a doubt I chose a Nissan...

Why I Love My LEAF, is the Majority Too Silent?

I think most people in Norway are happy with their Leafs. I know of people who save over USD 6000.00 per year just in gas/diesel and road toll charges! I haven't heard of a single car which has lost battery capacity. Ironically we have the opposite problem of many of the people in...

    Epic Norwegian Nissan Leaf Roadtrip

Electric cars in Norway is nothing new, so there is already a general Electric Vehicle Owner's Club, that many of us are members of. I think the Nissan sellers pay for the first year's membership. I believe the Nissan Leaf is the 15th most sold car in Norway this year. We have about the same...

Charging that Electric Car Could Cost More Than Tank of Gas

For 2011, 1.47% of cars sold in the entire country were electric. The next is Denmark, with 0.21% and the Netherlands with 0.16%. Norway, with less than 5 million inhabitants, is in third place in electric car sales for Europe, only surpassed by France and Germany (which have massively larger...

Charging that Electric Car Could Cost More Than Tank of Gas

The Status in Oslo, Norway: We now have over 400 new totally free charging places (230 V 16 A 3.6 kW), all provided by the city council. Both parking and charging is free. The council pays up to $1600 for companies and residential associations to provide charging places. Electric cars park...

OpenEVSE - Open Source Charging Station

Just one potentially VERY important point here: Make sure that the vibrations in the car do not temporarily close the normally open relay contacts, such that the Leaf detects the EVSE when you are driving, and switches itself out of drive mode. (I've no idea what it will do if it happens at...
