Hey I’m new and just joined, I got a free Nisan leaf from someone online looks like the battery health is 10 bars but I can not get it to charge or start. I have gotten a new 12 volt battery and attached the leaf spy codes. I believe it’s the pre charge resistors but before I jack everything up and put it on stands I was hopping for a second eye. I also tried clearing the codes and resetting everything a few times no dice.

Hey, congrats on the free Leaf, based on the Leaf Spy codes you posted, it does seem like it could be related to the pre-charge resistors or maybe a CAN communication issue. And since you've already tried resetting the codes and swapped the 12V battery, I'd definitely double-check those resistors before jacking the car up. A second opinion is always good, so hopefully someone here can chime in too.

Wait is there a way of checking with out pulling the massive battery?

When you plug in the EVSE to charge:

Do you hear the normal charging sounds of the relays and contactors clacking in the car, such as for READY mode?

Do you hear the AC relay click ON inside the EVSE?

Does the charging session seem to start but then times out after a few seconds, or does it never even start?

Do you have any error status leds on or blinking on the EVSE unit?

If the pre-charge resistor inside the Pack is damaged, then you would not be able to get READY mode for driving, or do AC charging.

There are pre-charge resistors inside the OBC that will prevent the AC from the EVSE from reaching the waffle plate™ if they are blown. This would prevent charging but would allow driving.

The car beeps and starts to charge after a few seconds the relay clicks and stops charging, I can also not drive.

When i press the start button it turns on the dash but won’t let me start it I don’t think I hear any relay

If I understand you correctly the charger has no error it will go from charging then says it’s done charging when car stops. Thanks so much for the help btw.

Also it’s a brand new charger

Your first fault code reports Key Fob Miss Registration.
If the car doesn't recognize the key I wouldn't expect it to start.

It might be that the key fob battery is flat.
Have you tried pushing the start button with the end of the key which should still work in this way with a flat fob battery.

All your DTCs point to systems other than the OBC as issues. The EV/HV system errors could prevent both driving and charging, so those need to be investigated and resolved first.

Issues:
Key
CAN Buss
HV Traction Battery

Download the EVC section of the FSM to read about those DTCs (1-day Nissan Tech Subscription or nicoclub website)

What model and year is your car?

I programmed a new key it recognizes it and I can press and start a d shift and unlock car and everything
