I recently bought a 2017 30kwh Leaf. The map is from 2015-2016 so I would like to update it. However the cost of doing so through Nissan is pretty high and it's only a couple of years younger. I only need it for Ireland as I won't be taking this car anywhere else! Is there any cheaper alternative?

Ok, not much action here! I am considering getting the update anyway because it would be good to have it but I’m wondering if it is worth it, given the latest version available through Nissan seems to be for 2016-17. Any thoughts?

I notice there are map updates available on Amazon etc. for a fraction of what Nissan charges. Obviously compatibility would have to be clarified. Is this a possibility or does an update have to be sourced from Nissan only and coded to the particular car/nav system?

Thanks. I can only find a Nissan website that does the updates based in the US although I am in Ireland. Does this look like the right one? It says it is based on data from 2020 but may well be 2018 as you say.

Here is a photo of my Nav version screen:

Integrated map updates for older cars, at least the Leaf and Prius have, are stupidly expensive, clunky as hell, a pain to use, and generally not worth the hassle. The Leaf is WAY better than the Prius, which is gawdawful. I hate that app.
Use your phone. Or get a dash mount and an old Android/iPad that have GPS and use that if you want a larger/better screen. It'll cost less, update itself, and work better.

Just coming back to this as I have been using the Nav system and actually really like it. So I'm wondering if it is worth getting the update after all. My version details are in the screenshot above (post #4) but the year is stated as 15-16. Here is a picture of the latest available update which seems to be for 16-17. If that's so there probably wouldn't be much of a difference so it wouldn't be worth the cost. However if it is 2018 as @Stanton said above I might consider it:

Also what does it mean when it says 'Map data collected as of Q4 2020'? I'm confused as to whether it's 2016-17, 2018 or 2020!

Well I don't live in the dark ages - of course I have a phone and Google Maps! 😒 ;)

I actually like the way the Leaf system looks and works though and would like to update it if the latest version is significantly more up-to-date than my existing map. I heard back from HEAR and they told me that the latest one is actually from 2020 and to send a pic of my SD-card so that they can determine what year it is from. I've sent that off so I'll see what they come back with.

Apparently the 'MY16-17' in the update info above (post #11) refers to the model years it is applicable to, not the date of the map which I thought it was. So it was collected in 'Q4 2020' which of course means the last quarter of 2020. That's not too old then.
