Hi, I saw from Dala videos that he has some aftermarket android unit in his Leaf. Just wondering if anyone has tried this with some success? Ebay is full of options that apparently fit the ZE01 Leaf, I have a 2018 model and i'm keen on trying it, as for around 100-150€ it should be possible to get a nice unit.

I did this in my previous car which was the Subaru Forester and it worked flawlessly, however this car was way simpler.

Any thoughts?

Depends on your trim level, if you have the lower trim (climate controls with round knobs instead of the bowtie-shaped button panel) you can install pretty much anything, and a company called Unavi makes one that looks like the higher spec head unit. However replacing the higher spec head unit is not really feasible due to the amount of features and controls linked to it.

Hm, I have prettly low trim level, actually not sure exactly which one as I bought it second hand and there was nowhere this information. But I don't have ProPilot or heated seats/steering wheeel, etc. For me it seems pretty basic trim. But, I do have the bowtie shaped button panel. So probably I have the most basic trim that has this kind of dashboard.

So, I basically have no upgrade options?

I follow, because I also have the version with the two wheels without the square buttons (ver ZE1 2017 before 2019) ... and I would like to switch to a version without the compatibility problems described in the tread "HOW-TO: 2018 Leaf ZE1 OEM headunit replacement (7" -> 8")"
To be clear, I would like to know how to replace the version with the "red NO" in the image

Upgraded mine last year. The Atoto S8 10-inch model more or less fits the space without really needing a dash kit (not that any are available on the market at this time anyways). I posted about it here. I had to pull up wiring diagrams and make a custom harness adapter to make sure pins were all accounted for. And on the gen 2 it will break your dash clock, steering wheel controls, and extra features like navigation and eco reports. on SV/SL the climate control will work but you won't be able to see the temperature/fan value anymore.

Im currently working on engineering a solution to fix the clock, SWC and the climate control stuff. Will make a comprehensive thread when im done.

If you want a perfect install with a smaller standard-sized unit you might be able to get a faceplate from 18-19 Leaf S with the 7 inch radio and use a bezel from the standard Nissan dash kit.

Did you have a link to this video :)

Not sure if this thread is dead or not, but I found a replacement unit for those of us who drive a ZE0 (SV/SL) from 2012-1017

https://www.niftycity.shop/products/nissan-leaf-2015-2018-apple-carplay-android-auto-oem-integration

Note: you will loose some basic functions like the CD player, so read the information on the site to see if this is for you, for me, I don't use the timers and don't do much beyond using the USB music player functions. but this is allegedly made to be a pure drop in replacement for the current leaf head units

This isn't a replacement head unit, it's a software upgrade/hack for the existing unit, so similar to existing offerings from Xanavi etc.

I purchased the following one recently. When I buy it, I hope anything works as expected but "NOT"
https://smarty-trend.com/en/nissan-...2FHQh5ek4SSdCTzogC500EuqAB6JCQjc5_B7eNuEX12Ra

Problem:-
(1) wiring. It comes with a set of wires and it doesn't work "AT ALL". I contacted the seller, and they said I must first connect GND. Okay, I connected GND but the unit still cannot power up. Then, the seller sent me another set of wires. They told me I must connect GND and ACC this time. I have to modify the wires by myself. Finally, I can power the unit up

(2) Canbus. The first model of canbus that came with the first shipment will not work. The seller sent another model of canbus. It also doesn't work. The backup camera and steering wheel control don't work at all. What the hell?

I asked around locally. Luckily, I found a car stereo installer selling me another canbus and wires. The technician did the installation for me. The canbus is not perfect but at least, the backup camera and steering wheel control "seem to be" working. The only thing that doesn't work is the air conditioning control cannot be displayed.

This Smarty Trend doesn't seem to test or know the issue. They just simply sell the product without any knowledge. The seller offered me US$50 for part of the installation fee. Unfortunately, up to now, I didn't receive a cent. I have to purchase the canbus and wires and the installation fee by myself. US$50 cannot even cover it. If you want to buy anything from them, it is on your own risk.

The biggest problem is to find a Nissan Leaf 2018 Canbus.

Very true the can bus you shared is the same one i got when i not too long bought my Android screen for my 2006 NS 3.8V6 Pajero the can bus allows for steering controls and other thing for the Pajero, but the LEAF is a different story they need to test them on a actual ZE1 and develop the head unit to be fully integrated some how.

We'll check that kit. Almost done with the brake job and new tires from 4Wheelonline. Time for interior mods including the head unit.

However replacing the higher spec head unit is not really feasible due to the amount of features and controls linked to it.
You can still use a lot of those features in the 2018 models, there just won't be any visual feedback... For example, the heating / air-conditioning won't show that you're adjusting it. Heated seats will still work, as the visual feedback is tied to the button itself, and not the head unit.

Much of the Pro Pilot stuff will still work in the 2018 models, too, because you can control most of it via the dash-computer above the steering wheel.

An obvious feature you will lose access to in the 2018 models is the automatic parking, as this specifically requires you to indicate how you would like to park via the head unit, and also requires you to hit "start parking" on the head unit, to initiate the automatic parking.

The Atoto S8 10-inch model more or less fits the space without really needing a dash kit (not that any are available on the market at this time anyways).
If you're buying one of those over-sized head units, such as the Kenwood 9720XDS (which we have installed in my partner's car), this might not be an issue, because the screen is so large that it obscures a large section of the center-dash... I just had a look at my 2018, and the head unit basically fills the void - there's no face plate around it, only the air-conditioning vents above it and the air-conditioning controls below it - so in the case of a 2018 model, this wouldn't be an issue at all if you're buying one of the over-sized head units.
