Hello
We live in a hot country, Malta in Europe with summers hitting 42/43 Degrees Celcius in the shade. Our late 2019 Leaf with 40kwh has a SOH of 85% at 85000km. It has never been fast-charged before.
The range is about 220km with AC off, ECO mode on and careful range.

Is it normal to see this kind of degradation?
What level does it need to reach for the warranty to trigger pls?

Thank you

My Canadian 2019 LEAF has 77,000 km and a 89.8 % soh, I bought the car new after it had sat over a year on the dealer lot with less than 200 km on the odometer. I have had about 60 quick charges but most of those where just 20 or 30% bump up to ensure I could make it to my destination. Compared to mine you are probably just a little worse.

My understanding is Nissan is a true PITA to deal with regarding battery replacement warranties. A 2019 is theoretically 5 years old. So the warranty is arguably dead. It might not be though. It will depend on when it was actually rolled off the dealer lot the first time. So if it’s a used car it gets a bit complicated. If you’ve actually got a good claim (I don’t know) expect pushback from Nissan. I’ve got a 2019sl with 95%, but I live in Minnesota and it was originally a Vermont car. It’s a pile colder up here.

Hi,

Heat is the enemy of batteries and electronics, so your issue seems likely due to the tropic (high heat & humidity) climate conditions in your country.

The Nissan warranty varies between different countries. Nissan shows a 3year/100,000km warranty for Malta:
https://www.nissan.com.mt/customer-service/warranty.html

However, you should contact the Nissan dealership in your area to verify the exact warranty information:
https://www.nissan.com.mt/contact-us.html

The traction battery has a separate (usually longer) warranty. Here in Canada (and in the USA I believe) it's 8 years or 160 000 km.

For more details please refer to your Warranty Booklet and Maintenance Record or simply call your local dealer

Also:

It usually implies the capacity meter on the dashboard reaching 9 bars. That's also stated in the warranty booklet. The traction battery warranty also covers manufacturing defects and that includes sudden and significant losses of charges while driving. Anything leaf spy reports alone is not enough to start a warranty claim. You need DTCs or other practical proofs of malfunction.

I went through two and they both went pretty well. My local dealer's pretty nice.

Well in Malta it is the same... battery 8yrs or 160k km.
So far the bars are full but leafspy pro is showing 85% SOH...

What i am not happy is that AC stopped working and they charged €900 for some pipes they replaced from the evaporator and now a few months later it stopped again! It went in and they are charging us €1200 for a new evaporator.... and the saying is that EVs are cheaper to run

I don't think anyone claims they are cheaper to repair. Run, and repair are two different things.
Haha 😝 good one!

I was thinking to get a cheaper 2016-17 30kwh for daily use but the batteries are so degraded with only 7-8 bars left that it got me thinking twice…

If I were you, I would open a case with Nissan corporate about this issue. They may end up giving you some money back or something similar.

I filed a case on a defective passenger seat weight sensor a few months ago and got 50% money back for the repairs done by the dealer. Nissan extended warranty service claimed the sensor was part of the "wear and tear" (short) warranty, but I kept pushing the claim and got some money back.

Sounds about right. It was probably mostly labor. The AC is buried down deep in the dash so they’ve got to take it apart to get to it. 85 is still >80

Well i tried with local reps but so far no success. The part was ordered so will have to fight it when the time of the installation will come.
