I'm considering purchasing a 2012 Nissan leaf sv soon. I haggled it down to 1,000. I'm only using it as a commuter car to work I'm just 3 miles to work round trip 6 miles a day. Seller says it has 73000 miles 12 bars in needs recharge after 20 miles. I'm on an island Honolulu just need the car for 6 months then I'm buying a newer car. Is this car worth it until I get my new car?

It has 12 bars but only a range of 20 miles? Do you have LeafSpy so you can get a better look at the condition of the main traction battery? The whole deal just sounds weird. Doesn't seem right, but at a $1000 doesn't seem like you can go wrong if it actually drives and is in good condition.

My guess is he is looking at SOC not SOH on the dash. It is an easy mistake for someone not used to the Leaf.
One thing, with that short a commute, you could "test drive" the car and make sure it will do what you need it to. A 6-10 mile test drive should tell you all you need to know.

Don't buy any used Leaf without a LeafSpy reading; the AHr value will tell you everything you need to know about battery capacity.
OTOH, a $1000 for a car (any car) that actually runs seems like a steal.

I decided to pass on that one waiting on something with at least 50-70 miles. I figure pay 2000 get a better range. That battery seems very degraded. Found some better gen 2 leafs for 2500 2013-2014 8-10 bars.
