Hi all,

We have a 2015 ze0 Leaf and a 2021 ze1 Leaf - we only have the 2021 Leaf a few months. I suspect that the newer Leaf is a bit less sturdy that the older model - certainly the rear trunk (boot) seems to me to be less solid sounding and feeling when I close it down but worse is the creaky hinges when I open it up. I've sprayed WD40 on the hinges but it hasn't made any difference.

I'm wondering has anyone else had this problem ?

thanks,

Derek

Regular WD-40 probably isn't the best choice. It's great for displacing water, freeing stuck nuts and bolts, and short-term lubrication, but for hinges you want a lubricant that won't drip away or evaporate. I would look for some white lithium grease or similar.

I would check the four joints on the gas lifts. Spraying the hinges should have stopped the squeaking, if only temporarily. Hinges should be lubricated with a spray grease, preferably something with an EP (extreme pressure) additive.

Yes the gas struts squeal and biind in warm temps in my case then are fine again back in the garage at room temps. It's annoying but not sufficiently annoying to have found a cure as yet
