I got into a car accident and had to purchase another car, and really didnt want to buy another beat up internal combustion car. So I found a decent 10bar 2015 leaf near by. Teacher owned it and was ~50k miles.

price was right, and rebates made it basically free.

range anxiety hit me hard at first, but really died quickly. planning is all you need.

so far, that thing is awesome. its my to work and home transport. Im playing with leafspy, and an ELM327 adapter to do some fun stuff.

Gotta love that low-cost low-end torque--it never gets old jumping off the line at stoplights and beating muscle cars up to the speed limit. Mustang, camaro, charger, corvette, porsche, even cop cars--i've out dragged them all at my favorite 3-lane wide light. Sure IC engines make more power eventually, but nothing beats that EV grin.

honestly, that was the shocker. I get a lot of hate, even from friends. but when I stab it, it tends to shut up quite a lot. and this is a LEAF haha.

but in the end, me driving this. Saves so much on gas I can BUY the race car parts I want for the weekend!...... its not always, one or NONE.

I am thoughly enjoying the silence of it also, even though I enjoy a nicely tuned 4 cyl revving to the stratosphere curling through corners. But its not always what you want, every minute of everyday.

I know,
I don't know how many times, but I do use a dash cam, so I'm very tempted to post these videos up online, but there are many sections around town where you have 2 or 3 lanes going straight for a section of highway where the speed limit is 50 or 55 mph. Everyone is driving the "low" end version (cheaper) of the mustang, corvette, charger, motorcycles, etc. with some really "loud" modifications. The light turns green and the Leaf just blows everyone away, while in the rear you can hear the other owners revving the engine as high as possible for the next gear trying to keep up. The instant start is what throws everyone off, the Leaf isn't peeling out, making loud exhaust sounds, it just shoots off like it was on rails. 😲

When I make it to the next stoplight, the owners pull up next to me and ask what the heck I am driving because it doesn't look like a Tesla. I always answer "The slowest EV in the world" and it always gets a good laugh from everyone. 😄

I drove trucks for the last 25 years of my working life. My wife had a AMC/Renault 1.4L 5 speed Encore, one of the slowest of the 80's cars.
My Saab Turbo has the wastegate set at 4 psi (by me)
In my past I drove fast, but years of being tow operator, and semi driver, I've seen a lot of carnage, Now I am fine taking it easy, which is good for range anyway.

I LOLed when I saw the headline. Of course you do. *points* “car tech nerd!” That insane low end torque has some weird additional uses. It can do things only big diesels do. It can pull stuff it shouldn’t be able to from a standing start. Stuff like that. There’s a reason Tesla loves drag races.. they had a sports car with a power glide for a while. Thing will eat tires like a high hp sports car though. For more or less the same reason.

Does it on the freeway too. There was a time when 6.2 0-60 was reserved for pretty high end stuff.

I was in auto vehicle crash research for about 15 years. I saw ( and I bet you did too ) how incredible horrifying some accidents can be. it changes how you drive on public roads.

I mean there is nothing wrong with playing to strengths. ;) its really what racing was about. find some way to get an edge

I suppose an incredibly fast 0-60 can be exhilarating, but the Physics of 60-0 in a small fraction of a second are unforgiving. Back in the early 70's (when I was in Drivers Ed. in high school...yes an Old Guy), we were shown a film called "Mechanized Death". You can find this on YouTube, but be prepared, it shows in graphic detail the aftermath of some horrific crash scenes. There was no CGI then, and it is NOT sugar coated. If it was mandatorily shown now, I can just imagine the kickback...but perhaps it should be.

I think it should be. With the amount of drivers aids, (traction control, lane assist, self driving ) people are forgetting these are 5000+lbs land rockets.

My Nissan Leaf 2013 won’t charge. I took it to the mechanic garage and was told to take it to a battery care center as it won’t charge (this I know before taking it to the garage). I need your advice and help on this as it is getting really frustrating. Anyone with such experience in the past…?
