I have a geek background and a desire to learn more about the details of how AC charging works at home on Level 1 or 2 chargers. I searched and viewed a few posts related to the AC Charging protocol used with EVs. Just adding my findings. I thought it might be helpful to new LEAF owners like me. The AC home charger protocol uses what is called PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). By the way, Pulse Width Modulation is an engineering term not specific to the LEAF if you weren't aware.
I found this YT video, slightly dated but I think it is still relevant. Keep in mind the author is from Europe, but the system is essentially the same.
This wiki, "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAE_J1772", lays out some of the history and technical aspects but I thought the author presented a far more friendly explanation of how it works. Personally, I have always found troubleshooting issues far easier with an Indepth technical knowledge of how something works versa guessing.
I hope this is helpful to some of you with a curiosity and interest of learning of how AC charging works. It helped me. I wish you well...
