That will interesting to watch since it could be a microcosm of the global market dynamics. Like the song says 'if they can make it there, they can make it anywhere'

I recently returned from a ~9 day trip to Japan with most of my time spent in Osaka then Okinawa with a bit of time in Tokyo at the end.

As before, I saw few BEVs. I saw 1 gen 1 Leaf, at least 2 gen 2, a Tesla Model Y (probably, might've been a 3) from a distance, a few Teslas parked outside https://glion-museum.jp/en/ (largest collection of EVs/Teslas I've seen at once in Japan; was included with https://lp-osaka.tourism-pg.com/index_en.html) and at least twice, these kei-van i-MIEVs being used by the Japanese postal service (https://www.electrive.com/2024/07/10/mitsubishi-to-supply-3000-electric-kei-cars-to-japan-post/). Yes, the kei-vans were that color with those markings.

I could definitely see and hear plenty of hybrids, likely almost all non-plugin. I saw a bunch of Nissan e-Power (series hybrid) cars like Notes and plenty of Toyota hybrid synergy drive hybrids ranging from obvious like Prius, aqua (Prius c here), Alpha (Prius v here) and others where you could hear the distinctive motor and inverter whines from THS of cars not sold in the US like some minivans, Sienta, and a few others.

I did take a bus in Okinawa and it had to stop at a Japanese highway rest area (first time I've been to one). It had a CHAdeMO charger and was this location: https://www.plugshare.com/location/50640. Nobody was using it but it was at night.
