The lights are a sealed unit, so it's not easy to diagnose and fix the issue. Almost always, the reason for the DRLs or any lights not working anymore is water intrusion into the housing.
If you're handy with a soldering iron, you can certainly remove the light from the car (the bolts that hold them are fairly obvious, not a big job) and have a look. It's unlikely that the LED has died, it's probably a connection issue.
If both were out I'd suspect a fuse, but afaik the DRLs are both on the same fuse.
