Our Leaf does a lot of journeys along wet, muddy and gravelly Welsh back roads. The lack of any mudflaps behind the wheels allows a lot of this stuff to get thrown up & along the wheel arch paintwork, which is going to suffer from gravel-rash before long.

There are some "official" Nissan mudflaps/guards but these are a silly price (£160 a set) and look a right PITA to install. The Nissan service agent workshop would probably charge as much again or more to do an installation.

Sculling about the interwebbery reveals this article listing alternatives to the "official" Nissan mudflaps:

Does anyone have any experience of these or any others that are a reasonable cost, install easily and are available in the UK?

Thanks in anticipation for any advice.

PS The Leaf does relatively short journeys on free (solar) or very cheap (overnight) electricity so I'm not bothered about any small reductions in efficiency due to mudflap wind drag.

You'll probably get more specific advice if you tell us exactly which year/model Leaf you have. [Edit: I just reread the title of your post and see you have a 2023. Whoops.]

My 2014 SV has small factory guards/shields but they don't do much. If you're going to install something better, you'll have to go big (=wide and long) to be effective.

I have seen several Subarus in my area with the RallyArmor flaps and they extend well past the wheel arch/side of the car.

Another option to consider would be to mount narrower tires and/or narrower wheels with a smaller offset. Sucking the wheels and tires into the wheel wells will reduce the amount of crap thrown onto the side of your car with or without better mudflaps.

Hi Drew,

Those Rally Armour flaps seem (on screen) to meet my spec (inexpensive & simple to fit). I'll try a front pair to start - a mere £32 inclusive of sales tax and postage. The rear flaps are less critical as there's far less gritty mud gets off the back wheels on to the outside paintwork. But if the front flaps prove good I'll probably acquire a rear pair too, in due course.

The Nissan Leaf mudflaps hardly look flappy at all - unlikely to catch all the wheel-thrown clarts as they project hardly at all from the side of the wheel arches. A large and simple dangler, like the RallyArmours, seems a better design for the purpose (rather than the looks).
