Hi,
I have been using my 2019 Nissan Leaf 40kwh (uk) successfully with several phones, ie I can make and receive phone calls and texts and can play music through the Leaf sound system from my phone. Recently I upgraded my wife's phone to a Samsung Galaxy A15 (Android 14). This phone paired fine with the car but then refused to play music or make calls. Nothing I tried would make this work so I rebooted the phone and turned off the car and when all back up again still no joy. I decided to delete the phone from the car. I press the "i" next to the phone name in "connections" and there is a delete option. Pressing this results in "do you want to delete xxx phone". Pressing YES just hangs. I can press MENU to return to the main screen but even waiting 30 mins will not delete the phone. The phone also shows that it is "connected" despite the actual phone having Bluetooth turned off. Clearly, this is locked in to the car somehow. In desperation, I changed the name of the phone on the phone itself (I had already tried unpairing but no use), rebooted and tried again. This time the phone deleted ok. I re-paired the phone with the car and all worked well for a day, and now my wife cannot make calls from the phone (the car screen says "call failed") although music plays ok from the phone.

I have been trying for 2 days to remove the phone from the car system but it gets stuck again at the DELETE PHONE....YES operation. The phone again shows that it is "connected" to the car even when the phone is miles away or has bluetooth off.

Any ideas anyone?

Ah, the Leaf Bluetooth issues never end.

I used to have similar issues about a year ago. Turning the car OFF, waiting a minute, then back ON used to work for me. However, I have not had any Bluetooth issues since.

You mentioned:
In desperation, I changed the name of the phone on the phone itself (I had already tried unpairing but no use),
Do you mean that the phone settings would not let you unpair the car? If yes, then that seems to be an issue with your phone's Bluetooth.

You mentioned:

If the phone setting is showing that it is connected to a Bluetooth device, when the phone is too far away from the device for a connection to actually happen, then that seems to be an issue with your phone's Bluetooth.

I would try pairing the phone with other devices like speakers, headphones, etc., and test playback or calls on these devices for a few days to see if the phone's Bluetooth is bad.

Apologies.... I wrote the question in a bit of a hurry and haven't been clear. "I already tried unpairing" meant that I had successfully removed pairing on the phone, but this still didn't allow me to delete the phone from the list of phones on the car.

"The phone shows it is connected...." I meant to say that the car screen shows the word "connected" next to its entry in the list of phones. It shows connected even if the phone is turned off, so somehow it's locked up in the car's storage.

I also tried to turn off Bluetooth on the car settings but it won't turn off.

This all points to the car being at fault, but a different phone works fine.

Bluetooth on Nissan cars can be quirky.

Try turning Bluetooth OFF on your car via settings, turn the car OFF, wait a minute, then turn the car ON (i.e., without stepping on the brake pedal; Not "Ready to drive" mode). Retry deleting the phone, then turn Bluetooth back ON on your car.

What mode (i.e., ON or "Ready to drive") is your car in when you try making these Bluetooth changes via your car? Sometimes having your car in the "Ready to drive" mode (i.e., pressing the brake pedal while pressing the Power/start button) may interfere with making settings changes on your car.

I have tried in all modes. Plus I can't turn Bluetooth off in settings. It remains on no matter what I do.

Sorry, I do not have a solution for this problem. I have a 2019 Leaf, and also have intermittent bluetooth problems, though not exactly the same as yours. At the suggestion of another forum member, I installed a quick disconnect toggle switch on the fuse for the infotainment system, and that helps a lot. I no longer need to turn off the car in order to reboot the bluetooth. But this only helps if the problem is intermittent. If yours is a solid failure, a quick disconnect won't help.
