Hi. Thought I would share. Just dropped to 8 bars on my 2014 Leaf SV, 24kWh, with 87500 mi. Nissan quoted me replacement at $18,000+. They could not tell me what the replacement battery’s capacity would be. They only said that it comes from Japan and the last one they replaced took 9 months.

Ouch! Obviously, that's nowhere near worth it.

It'd probably be 24 kWh since 30 kWh packs are discontinued. And, I'm not aware of Nissan installing 40 kWh packs into 24 kWh cars.

I just bought my 2014 used with about 64K miles with 8 bars and hope to use it for the foreseeable future.

Without a location it is hard to suggest where to look, but you have options. Being a 10 year old car, the choice is going to be on you to decide what and how much to invest in a repair, if any.
The Leaf Repair Network can install a new battery (40KWH)
the aforementioned Green Tec can do the same with used.
There are other shops around the country (US, if that is where you are) that can either replace bad cells (If that is the problem) or swap batteries from a wreck to your car.
As most have stated, Nissan only does "like for like" exchanges as far as we know.
 
Yaste 's 62kwh to the USA only costs around $6k including taxes and duties and everything! brand new CATL modules.
 
So I’m in Indiana and I bought it new in Nashville for about half of what the battery was quoted to me. Since we only use it for local trips, the capacity is still fine for what I need. I only brought it in as I mistakenly thought that I would covered under the capacity warranty when it is only covered under the defect warranty.

Out of curiosity, how do you determine the battery capacity of a salvage vehicle as most of them are not fully charged?
 
If you have access to the connector on the pack you can power up the lectronics in the pack and check it.
Need a special tool for that.
The tool costs $600? I don't remember exactly what I paid for mine for the shop.
You could build it yourself with parts and connectors, there is an open source schematic out there.

For battery packs, while it is possible, for most folks it is not financially palatable.

I have a 62 kWh pack I put in my 2015 (24 kWh) Leaf.
That would have been a $15,000-$19,000 job retail cost at the time. (A couple of years ago.)
Now you can buy a Used Tesla for that price.

No way a 62 kWh pack from Asia for $6,000 is an assembled pack. It is not proven long term.
An assembled pack usually is paid for in full before it is shipped, then it takes 2-3 months for it to arrive.
The tariffs from certain Asian countries is pretty harsh. So many are moving their operation to ship from other, lower tariff countries.

If anyone in the US wants to gamble their $$$$$ on an Asian pack, let me know, I'd be happy to cut you a deal on the install labor just to see the mess your money buys. None of the companies have been willing to send (discounted) packs here for evaluation.

Seriously, call me 608-729-4082 You can be the guinea pig and let's roll the dice using your cash. Sounds like fun.

It is my understanding (from info read here and elsewhere) that Nissan only installs 40kwh packs in cars originally having 24kwh or 30kwh packs. I have a 2016 30kwh pack with 8 bars. Schomp Nissan quoted me $13,500 for a 40kwh pack 3 years ago. Too expensive. Have you checked what LeafRepairNetwork.com can do for you?

From what I understand Nissan no longer offers the 24kWh or 30kWh battery packs as replacements. I've seen numerous references to Nissan warranty replacements of 30kWh battery packs being performed with 40kWh.

It needs to find a workshop to do the installation but it's easy and they provide remote assistance. Seeing is believing, feedback from those clients is true. you can probably see their YT channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJ4dSjKWzDk

Have never heard of "Nissan only installs 40kwh packs in cars originally having 24kwh... packs". Nissan's policy has been a hard no on installing bigger packs on 24 kWh cars, AFAIK. You can look at NTB14-059d (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10171223-0001.pdf) with all the part numbers near the end. Part number OP posted in screenshot was 295B0-3NF8A without the dash, which lines up with what's in that PDF for a '13 to '14 Leaf.

Have a source for the Nissan dealers installing 40 kWh packs into 24 kWh Leafs?

The only upgrade that they've supported is on 30 kWh cars where the 30 kWh pack was discontinued, so they were putting in 40 kWh packs. See NTB20-001: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10171230-0001.pdf.

The promise of cheap EV batteries years ago never happened. Suppose Covid had some effect. To answer your question. FORGET finding salvage. Don't belive me? Try. They are on a pipeline you are not in. Not saying you can't go to auctions, hunt, but good luck.

How to tell? If in car LEAF spy is a fairly cheap smartphone app that uses Bluetooth ODSII donkey. It will tell general health. The dash display and range is there as well. All the early LEAF's were 24KW/hr. Later 40 Kw/hr.
 
If the car still turns on, then with Leaf Spy. Else, that's a very good question.
The wiring to connect a 12 volt supply (to power the battery pack electronics) and an OBD connector (for a dongle and Leaf Spy or similar) is not complicated. I think Dala has a description for it. Once the battery controller is powered by 12V, it can be queried for its internal records of the battery stste.
