Hello everyone, thank you for having this forum. It's provided me with highly useful information and has helped me decide on which Leaf to purchase. I was lucky enough to purchase a 2017 30kw car from AZ. I live in CT thousands of miles away but I knew from the photos that the battery was shot with only 5 bars showing. I verified with my local dealer that this car was in fact still covered by the battery warranty. So I pulled the trigger and purchased the car and had it shipped to me. Once I received the car 5 days later I did a quick was, replaced the 12v battery, checked and cleared any outstanding codes, and then I towed the car to the dealership I have previously called. When I dropped the car off I was handed keys to a 2024 Nissan Rogue and told "see you in a month". They tested the battery and confirmed that is was bad with only 16 of the 96 cells passing the test. Nissan has approved the claim and is sending a 40kw to be installed. I am besides myself with happiness with this purchase so far. I paid a few thousand for the car and shipping, then I get a $10k upgrade, and I have a free loaner until it's done. So I have a couple questions

1. Why didn't the person(s) who had the car previously get the battery warrantied before selling it? I know I'll never know that answer but it's got me puzzled.

2. What should I expect for range with the 40kw battery in a 2017 Leaf?

Battery capacity is measured in kWh, not "kw".

Hopefully you actually receive a replacement pack and not no pack and a buyback offer instead. For awhile (see https://mynissanleaf.com/threads/the-battery-replacement-buyback-thread.34237/ for example), lots of people were waiting for ages or eventually no pack and a buyback.

Nissan isn't doing well: https://www.reuters.com/business/au...outlook-after-q1-profit-slumps-99-2024-07-25/. If they can get away with just giving you $ for that car and now taking a car out of circulation + any warranty or recall liability, they may do it.

It may be better for them to allocate that 40 kWh pack to a new Leaf to book revenue (and probably a profit) on that vs. very little revenue by giving you a replacement pack.
