My Nissan dealer has my 2022 SL+ scheduled for Tuesday. My camera has not given me problems yet?
It’s about time for a tire rotation, too.
My 2022 SV+( corrected model) recall was completed yesterday. The Nissan dealer found no problems but added protection to prevent future problems. An ounce of protection….

I had mine done this morning at the local Nissan dealer. Below is what my paperwork indicates:
Inspected rear camera image operation.
Found image clear. No issues.
Applied foam protector per service campaign.
No further action required. Recall complete.

I'm hoping that when I take mine in it does act up for them because 95% of the time I either get a disco light show, squiggly lines or a black screen and I don't want the one time they look at it to be one of the few times that it works.

My camera has been flaking out, either bright pink, blurry, or sometimes just black. If I slam the trunk lid, it might fix it and it might not.
Took it to my local dealer when I got the recall letter. They inspected it and confirmed the blurry image and ordered a replacement.
I just had it replaced today and it said "replaced camera and secured wires per bulletin." The image looks fine now.

There was absolutely nothing in the paperwork that describe taping the harness. It says they performed an inspection, nothing further.
My paper work says: Tech: Meomo Keone
Inspect rear camera operation and add harness protector. (OK condition)

The only "new" info that the Service Rep told me was they are finding that the defective/troublesome camera for this recall only applies to some VINs.

I got mine repaired a month ago. Only the wiring harness didn’t do it so they had to order in a whole new camera. So far so good

I'm going to have to call them. I went on my local dealers site to schedule service and it says there's no open recall for my VIN. Well my owners portal at Nissan says otherwise.

2022 Leaf. 10/21 build. I took the back hatch door panel off and all of the wires inside were very well protected and taped including the camera wire pictured here wrapped in a rubber sleeve. It could be that in 2022 (and later) that they knew about the problem and started protecting the wire. This may explain why some people said it was inspected and they did nothing. I hope with the picture that I have that they can remove me from the recall list.

Removal of the panel is not hard (pop the 2 side panels 2 pins only straight out, remove the pull handle and 3 pins and pull straight down reaching deeper in to get the 2 pins by the backup light). The back panel hooks into the side panels which is why they need to be partly removed. For reassembly, be sure to get the 2 pins up by the backup light installed and banged in first. The side trims do not need to be fully removed to do the removal. I didn't need tools - getting my fingers under the panels was all I needed to do.

My dealer addressed the backup camera recall when my car was in for routine inspection/servicing a week ago ('19 SL+). There was no visible evidence of a problem when the camera was in use and the dealer found no evidence of chaffing of insulation of the wiring. The dealer inserted additional foam insulation around the wiring to avoid the problem per instructions from Nissan.

What I wonder is were the wires rubber sleeved as in my picture? As pictured, I don' t see where the chafing can occur. The wire doesn't pass through any sheet metal.

After further thinking it may be possible to remove the hatch handle (it just pops straight out) and inspect the camera wires through the rather large hole where the handle was.

If you go to this site and put in your VIN, you should see if your Leaf is part of this.

I only have my 2018 and 2020 to put in VIN numbers to check (it says both are part of this Recall), I might put in my old 2013 VIN for giggles if I can find it in some old paperwork or LeafSpy screenshots just to see how far back this goes.
>> No open recall or campaigns associated with this vehicle.

A 2013 "S" according to Carfax.

Had mine done yesterday along with a 30 month inspect. and tire rotation. Camera was fine they just added some material to prevent cable chaffing. Put the inspect off for months until the camera "fix" was announced, as my local dealer only services the "Coal Fired" ones... and the it is an hour drive one way. Glad to have it done and over.

The dealer told me they can not and will not clear the recall without adding the harness protection part provided to them by Nissan. Those who said the dealer just inspected it and said it was fine didn't do the recall as they are required to do by the NHTSA.

My camera had to be replaced. The tech got that part right but did a terrible job re-assembling the trim pieces on the inside of the hatch. Greasy hand prints on them, too!
