2013 Nissan leaf is parked then accelerates uphill on its own

I pull in (not in the video).

Put my foot on the brake pedal, then push park. It’s stopped. The car isn’t turned off as I’m just intending to grab some trash on the curb and get right back in, but then it accelerates on its own. I jump back in and slam on the brakes.

Newer leafs were recalled for brakes not working in cold weather and unintended acceleration when gears switched using cruise control.

I’m reading on these forums getting dealerships to honor recalls is almost impossible :( But having it inspected next week

Are you 100% sure that the car was in Park. There is a pin (the parking pawl) that engages with the parking gear to keep the car from moving (as in traditional ICE vehicles with an A/T transmission).

From the 2014 Leaf service manual:

If you're confident that you put your Leaf in Park, I would have a dealership or independent mechanic check that the parking mechanism is functioning. For example, perhaps the electric shift control module isn't sending the appropriate signal to the parking actuator. I'm not sure if this is something that would produce a DTC (trouble code), but I would assume so.

There are no gears (in the sense of 1st, 2nd, 3rd...) in a Leaf. It's a single speed reduction gear.

Regardless, if you have video evidence of your Leaf behaving in an uncontrolled/dangerous fashion it shouldn't be too difficult to get the dealership or an independent mechanic to look it over for you.

I saw the exact same post on r/leaf but it seems the OP has removed the thread, again.

The consensus was that the Leaf wasn't in park, when OP stepped out, their foot was taken off the brake (note brake lights shut off), Leaf crept forward (as it could), OP panicked, hit accelerator instead of brake upon moving back into Leaf. Acceleration into structure as seen.

OP error, in short.
