What compact spare would fit a gen 1 Leaf?

Hmmm tough one! You might want to check out compact spares from cars like the Nissan Versa, Sentra, or even some models from Honda and Toyota, like the Civic or Corolla. These models often share similar spare tire dimensions.

I found one that works in a junkyard. I think it was from a Altima but it's been a while. I'll check it to see if it has a part number on it.

Any Nissan car (or small SUV like the Juke) will have the same bolt pattern as your Leaf.
If your 2013 Leaf has the same tires as my 2014 - 205/55R16 - you're looking for a spare with a diameter of 24.9 inches.

Compact spare tires come in many sizes. Here are a few that have a similar diameter and would work (note: there are probably other sizes with a similar diameter) -
T135/80D16 = 24.8 inches
T135/70D17 = 24.8 inches
T125/80D17 = 24.9 inches
T155/70D17 = 24.9 inches
T145/70D17 = 25.0 inches
T135/80D17 = 25.5 inches

Your compact spare doesn't have to be a perfect match as you shouldn't be going far or fast with the spare mounted. You would be fine measuring the diameter of any spare you look at and shooting for something close to 25 inches.

The bolt pattern is the same for most Nissan sedans and hatchbacks: 5 bolts, in circle of 114.3mm (4.5″).

The main issue will be the width and offset: my 2011 ZE0 is 16″ x 6.5″ 40mm positive offset (2011 Nissan Leaf Owner’s Manual, page 9-5). The bore diameter might be an issue, but like the bolt pattern, it appears to be the same for most Nissans e.g. Altimas going back to 2007, Juke, and even Pathfinder!

Search for "nissan wheel specs" e.g. wheel-size.com.

I imagine junk yards would be one good source for compact spare wheels or full size wheels.

Personally, I wouldn't fret about the diameter of wheel+tire because1. there are not huge differences for similar wheel widths that might befuddle the traction control or the tire pressure monitor and 2. I won't be driving on the spare on a long term basis.

The one I have and used successfully, came from a Nissan in a junkyard. I'm not sure what year/model car it came from but the rim is marked 16x4T, 8J077 and K406. The tire is a 135/90 R16.

I snagged one from an older altima , Jack, lug wrench. Mounted it under the hatch, plastic. Never needed yet in my 3 or 4 yrs ownership but peace of mind.
