Took the family to Germany! We spent 3 weeks in south central Germany, visited lots of classic places. Saw many ev's that are not avail stateside INCLUDING a BYD. I checked out the dealership in Frankfurt and came away rather impressed. The build quality of the car seemed to be on par with BMW/VW. I can see why the US gov't wants to stop these cars from competing with GM, etc. Quite fast charging, comfortable, solid feel and good looking. The small suv cost 35,000 euro. The cars are rare. I think the German ppl are not comfortable with supporting a company that may not be really nice to their employees...just my thoughts.

I agree but it's totally politics and in this case the Democratic party wanting the support of the auto unions :(
Before this we had/have the "Chicken Tax" which IMO unfairly put a rather large tax on some very nice more energy-efficient commercial vehicles than N. American auto mfgs. care to make, in effect banning them from sale here in "the land of the free". Note I'm not talking about small cars which don't meet our safety standards and possibly could never be made to comply but rather a tax on a vehicle just because it was made in another country.
IMO such taxes while somewhat well-intentioned only support N. American car makers being lazy and non-competitive with the international market and I don't agree with it.

Of the many different ev's we saw, only 4 Leafs! 3 first gen, only ONE second! Every rest stop had high speed charging but I think the dcfc there is not what our cars can use...
