Or Nevada, or really anywhere where they let him play what he wants, when he wants.

I thought TX was still a stick in the mud about direct sales.

It would be ironic if that opposition remained if TSLA moved their HQ and manufacturing there.

Yes, that would save him quite a bit of money, wouldn't it?

And just like that being in California isn't so cool anymore.

On that note, Toyota moved their NA HQ from Torrance, CA to Plano, TX: https://www.dallasnews.com/business/loc ... dquarters/. I drove around the outside of their campus years back, before they moved when I was down there for a visit.

Nissan moved their NA HQ from So Cal to TN over a decade ago: https://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/10/busi ... essee.html.

NUMMI in Fremont, CA (which is now Tesla's) was an old GM plant that got shut down and was empty for a long time. Then, GM and Toyota did a joint venture for a LONG time. But then GM went into dire straits and pulled out, leaving Toyota, who then decided it wasn't economically viable (IIRC) so they closed too, selling the plant to Tesla.

I guess that Tesla is (was?) building cars where they built my ex-GF's old Corolla. Chevy...ahh, the name escapes me: they were re-badged Corollas with more standard and optional features...were built alongside the almost identical Corollas. Geez, I just got up from a nap, and can't for the life of me remember the name of the Chevrolet version of the 90's Corolla. Oh well. Call it the Model 3. ;)

Yep. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NUMMI#Models_produced looks right. Before Prizms, I do remember the Chevy Novas that were basically Corolla clones.

I toured NUMMI when it was still open and producing vehicles for GM and Toyota. At the time, IIRC, the guide mentioned up to that point, they hadn't ever had any layoffs.

As I posted in another forum:
"The guy who spoke to us at the beginning of the room was a funny guy. He read partly from a script and laughed at some of it (e.g. "you are here") and went slightly off-script mentioning the Toyota Matrix (basically Toyota version of the Vibe) was stolen more often."

Anyway, there were other other auto assembly plants in California that are no longer. I was looking up a former GM plant in So Cal and stumbled across http://www.laalmanac.com/transport/tr04.php w/many I didn't know of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Jose_Assembly_Plant was closed for AGES (I remember passing by the closed buildings when I had to go to a place in Milpitas for PCs/PC parts) but now really is https://www.simon.com/mall/great-mall. There's a historical display inside about its past as an auto plant.
