I don't see either as being necessary. Miata was a very lightweight car, even all-in with engine, transmission and fuel tank. People have been doing DIY Miata EV builds for many years even with Lead-acid packs. It's a popular donor vehicle. Modern batteries would make it compelling, I think, if Mazda would put as much art and earnestness into the design as they did with the original.

I wonder why they gave it an "MX" model designation and not "CX." Mazda has usually reserved MX for sporty cars and CX for crossovers. CX-30 is already in use, but there's always CX-20.

Maybe it will use the rotary from the RX-8 as its range extender.
