Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday will launch a website to start taking customer orders for its battery-electric Focus compact car, due to hit showrooms in 19 markets during the next year.

Ford says its all-electric Focus will start at $39,995. Buyers may qualify for a federal tax credit of $7,500 and certain states, such as California, have additional subsidies. Would-be buyers of the Focus Electric will have only a few choices to make when ordering: leather seats are optional, and there are two paint colors.

As predicted ... well, in my head. ;)
That is, it would be higher priced than Leaf, but just dollars below $40k (i.e., $39,990 -39,999).
This will be interesting to watch. Competition is good.

Does it have an option for a Quick Charger port?

+1, and not good for the growth of the EV market, IMO.

And just two paint colors?!? :o And folks have been saying that Nissan's five colors were a weak offering. At least there's a leather option. I wonder if the power seats will be included or available, or if they were deleted for weight savings.

It will be interesting to hear the weight and performance reports, as well as the mpge rating. I'm still predicting that it'll be heavier than the LEAF due to the built-in weight of the components necessary to make the ICE version on the same assembly line. And with the batteries in the rear luggage area, I'm expecting a rear weight bias and a center of gravity that's higher than it should be.

Nope. But then what would you plug into it anyway?

Nope. They are relying on their larger built-in Level 2 charger (6.6 kW). Also, Ford is part of the group of automakers that are waiting for a new SAE standard quick charge port design, which hasn't been finalized. There is no way that they were going to support Nissan and Mitsubishi's CHAdeMO standard.

Is that $39,995 with destination charge (same price as a base Volt), or without the destination charge?
