Seat Altea XL EV

Fri Nov 11, 2011 4:28 pm

Seat announced a new EV and a new PHEV today.

The EV is based on the current Altea XL MPV, and will have an estimated range of 84 miles and a "limited top speed" of 84 miles per hour. The power-train puts out 115 horsepower (85 kW) and 270 Newton-meters of torque. It will have roof-mounted solar panels to keep the cabin cool on hot, sunny days.

Seat also announced a hybrid version of it's Leon hatch under the label "Twin-Drive".

The two prototypes will be tested by governmental institutions in Catalonia and Madrid, with an view towards actually building them by the middle of the decade. Seat says it could start making the Leon TwinDrive starting in 2015, with the all-electric Altea XL coming some time after that.

Very attractive. I like the lines... Not sure about the aerodynamics though...

Nothing original here. The complete drive train comes from the Volkswagen Golf Blue-e-motion (Seat belongs to the Volkswagen group).
