This was on local news and it took them awhile for them to post this on their web site.

Our plan is to purchase as many shares of Tesla as we can through the cryptocurrency movement and also to put together a voting trust to allow other people in doing that,” said Michael Hamilton, a Stopelon activist.

What?

Trump got 78 million plus votes. :) I'm not saying that Tesla isn't successful, just that Musk is a frequently loose canon.

Understanding the difference between the two has been a made me a happier, wealthier, progressive. ;)

If you're a wealthy Progressive, then you aren't doing it right. ;)
:) It's all relative, of course, "wealthier" n.e. "wealthy" But, hmmm (checks rulebook)...
I guess it then follows that if you're a "NY, leftie, bicyclist" and own a shiny new car from a climate wrecking auto company, same?
"Ford, G.M. and Mercedes agreed to work toward selling only zero-emissions vehicles by 2040. But Toyota, Volkswagen and Nissan-Renault did not join the pledge."

IHMO, purity tests and petty tribalism will not help us all progress. Good on you though, for driving and riding, electric; and moderating here.
It helps all of us.

Yup. That's why I lease.
Wouldn't having to like Musk be a kind of purity test...?
...one sec while I step over that strawman. Uh, if having to like Musk was a thing, I guess it would.
I don't happen to like him, though I do appreciate his substantial drive in service to things I feel are important. He's flawed like all of us but has abilities like few of us. Inspiring people to come together and create something worthwhile is a rare talent.
Pretty sure it doesn't matter to life on Earth how likeable he is.
It does matter how many oil fields get displaced by battery factories. Nissan doesn't care to "get it", despite having an early lead. Tesla does and is accelerating their effort. Without Musk, there would be no Tesla for all other automakers to chase. Perhaps it's getting to the point where his oversight is less necessary. I support Tesla and their mission with/without him. We need Japanese automakers like Nissan to show the same commitment.

Since we both support Tesla's mission, and neither of us likes Musk, then I'm really not sure why you are dogging me on this. I'm going to drop it. You can have the last word.

The leasing remark, BTW, was a joke. I lease because it's all I can afford to do.

I have always had the impression that LEAF (and a larger EV vision for Nissan) was more of a Ghosn thing than a Nissan thing. Explains their schizoid approach, destruction of early-adopter goodwill, and failure to progress.

I think that there may also be an element of Nissan having their hopes/expectations dashed when the American market greeting the introduction of the Leaf with a collective shrug. They made an effort again with the 2013 model refresh and cheap leases, but when the battery degradation problem became acute, and sales dipped again in 2014 (IIRC), they more or less threw up their hands and put the EV effort on a back burner, aside from introducing the Lizard pack to minimize their warranty replacement costs. This is in part the fault of Nissan* for trying to sell a car with a heat-sensitive battery everywhere, and in part the fault of the American automotive market for having little interest in EVs. The Leaf was never a single-car replacement for a family with one ICE car, but it could easily have worked as a second car for local trips.

* And let's not forget the American dealership system, in which borderline (and actual) criminal sales tactics are more the norm than the exception. Many people were sold the Leaf as a 100 mile range car, with no mention of Winter range loss or degradation of the battery over time. Even if the Leaf had no serious degradation issues, there would have been a backlash, as people discovered that they were sold a 70 mile range EV that got 45 miles at best in frigid weather.
