I'm not looking. I just finished ep 2 on my PC on a free trial. Generally, the series is better than I expected.

One complaint that I agree with is the relatively low plot density. A guy at my work and I agreed that what was covered in eps 1 to 4 of Picard would've probably been covered in 2 or 2.5 eps of TNG. It felt like we hadn't gotten that far by end of ep 4 of a 10 episode season.

Things really picked up in ep 5. By ep 6, I was concerned it'd be a low plot density snoozer but things picked up at the end.

I've overall seen very mixed reaction to the show w/reactions on opposite ends of the spectrum. A coworker who isn't a big Trek fan but I think her BF is (had only gotten thru ep 3 when we talked) felt the show was very disappointing. The polarized opinions I guess aren't that unexpected from any new Trek show that's different.

My only complaint is the plot premise of Romulans being absurdly ungrateful. The premise for the 2009 movie was beyond ridiculous -- a Romulan destroying entire planets because Spock, though risking his life to help, was too late to stop a supernova. The silliness persists in "Picard", where he helped save many Romulan lives before Starfleet put an end to it. "But hey, you gave up so screw you", say the Romulans. And so he has to pine and lament instead of being proud of having done so much good. I find a lot to like in the series, but it bothers me to see this "virtue shaming" aspect of contemporary culture find its way into the show.

I won't be staying in the thread, but I'll comment on the above. The Goldsman-Orsini fragment of the original Fringe crew are just as bad as JJ Abrams: they like big, stupid premises and 9/11 imagery more than they like making sense. I'm surprised the series isn't much worse than it is.

CBS offers a free month of All Access so you can binge-watch 'Picard'

S1 finale is this week. There are only 10 eps. I'm unfortunately 2 eps behind due to the mess that is COVID-19 :(, so I may have to bow out of this thread until I'm caught up.

The finale was quite good and very emotional for me. I even rewatched the last half hour or so and found it still emotional.

A guy at work pointed out that Michael Chabon posts a lot of answers to questions at https://www.instagram.com/michael.chabon/. I had no idea. Unfortunately, I'm not normally an Instragram user and find the navigation on their iOS app to be umm... strange.

There is almost too much to read at this point. Since the finale (ep 10) is available, I would NOT take peek at it until you've finished ep 10.

This show is a lot of nothing...

PICARD is a slow moving glacier dressed up an science fiction action classic. It relies on our old nostalgic memories of what was a good series. It is like showing us a giant ice cream sundae.... BUT With only one scoop of ice cream and the rest is all whipped cream,,,, a lot of air.

This show had so many characters that had such small roles, and were forgotten during the season. That "Legolas" ninja boy just stood around the whole season. Seven Of Nine would come and go and would only be drinking, fighting, and my last memory of her at the end is that she is Gay... Really shallow characters. The beauty of the ST franchise was that each episode had a memorable story and the shows could concentrate on the individual characters, personalities and relationships.

Last episode was better, but made no sense....

1) The Romulans, the villains, were actually correct and were trying to save the Universe.... The robots WERE going to destroy the universe. Riker and the federation came to fight them to STOP them from fighting the robots?

2) The use of MacGuffins.... Those "brass knukle things" that fix the ship in 30 seconds by just imagining it, and instantly making thousands of copies of your ship?? Man, I want one of those???

3) The human "Data" guy spent his life making an android for him to become immortal and what does he do? Give his robot body to a 90 year old dead guy? I would have said... "Thanks for your service Picard.... BYE... Give me my new robot body...?

I am glad it is over and don't really need any more Picard shows....

Re: the transient characters, yes, it seemed like they'd often pop up and then be killed. On the net, there seemed to be a running joke about what character would be killed next.

Yeah... that Raffi and Seven thing came out of nowhere. That was weird.

LOL! Well, it got renewed for season 2 even before season 1 aired.

That said, the opinions about the show have been pretty polarized. You're certainly not the first one to hate the show. I definitely wouldn't put it up there with my favorites: TOS and TNG. The one saving grace is that to me, this show and ST: D in their 1st seasons were a lot better than TNG season 1. Season 1 of TNG was mostly terrible and season 2 had quite a few turkeys.

That's one interpretation. My grasp of it was that the Romulans and the Synths (or one of them) both interpreted "the warning" differently, as dictated by their own prejudice. It's reasonable to conclude what the warning actually meant may have been beyond either one's comprehension. The nature of the "Uber Synths" remains a mystery and will no doubt figure prominently in Season 2.
