These Asian economies seem to have contained the coronavirus outbreak. Here’s how they did it - refers to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam

Have only had a chance to skim this.
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1260 ... 42434.html and https://twitter.com/laurelchor/status/1 ... 1401782273.
I’ve landed in Hong Kong after flying from Paris CDG, via London Heathrow. I now have to wait ~8 hours before I get my #COVID19 test results and thus have ample time to tweet about my experience.
Was interesting. They also on Twitter wrote:
If I broke my quarantine, I could be jailed for up to 6 months and fined up to HK$25,000 (US$3,225). The HK government also encourages people to report quarantine breakers. I would be genuinely afraid of the public wrath if I were to step outside wearing my bracelet.
The above is pretty hardcore. If we had something like that in the US, there'd be plenty of people bellyaching about the time, their freedom, etc.

Parts of Asia that relaxed restrictions without a resurgence in coronavirus cases did these three things
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/07/coronav ... esses.html is an old article now.
- South Korea and Hong Kong successfully relaxed pandemic restrictions without having another rise in cases by data sharing, using targeted testing and contact tracing.
- The varying results of efforts across Asia to contain the virus and reopen society present policy options and perhaps lessons for countries behind on the outbreak’s timeline.
- Public health specialists who spoke with CNBC said they’re not confident U.S. officials are taking note of what’s working and not working in Asia.

Masks work.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/19/coronav ... laims.html

Not for protecting you, for protecting others from you, if you happen to be infected and don't know it.

Just wearing masks and stopping large gatherings of people might be enough to lower the R value below 1.0.

Trump is discouraging mask wearing (other than White House staff, of course, to protect Trump). He is killing his followers.

CDC tracks cluster of coronavirus cases in rural Arkansas to church, raising alarm on religious gatherings
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/19/cdc-tra ... rings.html
At the Arkansas church, the pastor and his wife were the first two confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the county of about 25,000, the CDC says. Officials from the Arkansas Department of Health began an investigation on March 16 to understand the source of transmission and to identify others who might have been exposed.

The investigation traced the two infections to a three-day children’s event held at the church between March 6 and March 8 and a Bible study group held on March 11.

The CDC didn’t identify the church, but the Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported March 23 that 34 members of the First Assemblies of God Church in Greers Ferry who attended a children’s event there tested positive for the virus.

The CDC study said 92 attendees were contacted by health officials. Of those, 45 people were tested for Covid-19, 35 of those tests were positive and three of the people died. Asymptomatic attendees were not “routinely tested,” the CDC said.

Spread of the virus within this event also leaked into the broader community, the CDC researchers said. At least 26 people who reported contact with attendees of the church tested positive for Covid-19 and one of them died, the researchers said.

What are those 7? Are the ones at https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/13/politics ... index.html what you had in mind?

I heard about Brazil being in trouble on TV last night. https://time.com/5837434/brazil-coronav ... n-america/ mentioned roughly the figures that article lists.
As of this week, those respecting social isolation ranged from 40% to 55% of people, depending on the state
...
And so the system is quickly becoming overwhelmed. Eight state capitals have ICU occupancy of more than 90%,

Yeah that's precisely what I was talking about, that article is about 5 weeks old,
It must have gotten so bad the media can't speak of it. To speak of it anymore would be detrimental to their lockdown everyone, everything, everywhere narrative.

Jerks. Yes.

It boggles the mind how bad the red/blue divide has gotten in this country, with those on the red side wiling to put themselves and others in danger to "own the libs". And let's be honest - that's really all most of this is.

Blue:

Stay home.
Wear a mask if you can't.
Follow the advice of scientists.

Red:

I wanna haircut/drink/go to the beach!
I ain't wearin' no mask!
Bleach cocktail with a side of fish tank cleaner? Yes, please!
