Masks work.

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/05/19/coronav ... laims.html

Not for protecting you, for protecting others from you, if you happen to be infected and don't know it.

Just wearing masks and stopping large gatherings of people might be enough to lower the R value below 1.0.

Trump is discouraging mask wearing (other than White House staff, of course, to protect Trump). He is killing his followers.
Trump is killing his followers another way. By promoting a drug that does nothing.

I really fear for our nation, and not because of the virus or even Trump. He'll be gone one day. It's people like "Kim" that worry me most.

that quote from Kim is not really an actual quote. It is the author saying it. The things he actually has here quoted as saying are the opposite. I think some of this may be the journalist trying to be a sensationalist. I'm really saddened that I now distrust all media and look so closely at everything because the media on both sides is always trying to sensationalize things. It may be true that she said that, but then why not actually quote what she said? I think it is because it does not sell magazines or generate clicks to give an honest account of her story. Seems to me she came forward to show that HCQ does not provide immunity, and they are making her out to be some dummy who believed she was immune to it by taking the drug, like the POTUS.

Nope to both.

https://www.wisn.com/article/woman-with ... 9/32605139 might be where the original story came from. (I'd originally looked at https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2020/05/ ... -covid-19/ which points to WISN.)
"When they gave the diagnosis, I felt like it was a death sentence. I was like, 'I'm going to die,'" Kim said. "I'm like, 'How can I be sick? How? I'm on the hydroxychloroquine.' They were like, 'Well, nobody ever said that was the cure or that was going to keep you safe' and it definitely did not."

Kim said even though she took precautions when leaving the house for the grocery store, she thought she would be safe because of what President Donald Trump has said about the drug.
...
"You're not safe taking that medication at all. (Hydroxychloroquine) is not going to prevent anything. You can still get coronavirus," Kim said. "It kind of makes me mad that (Trump) thinks it's going to do that and is telling the whole world it's going to do that."
The WISN page also has a video. She says the bolded part at around 0:45 into the video. The "It kind of makes me mad..." part is at around 1:26.

I was quoting the story. I'll add an attribution to make it clear. But I don't share your skepticism. The assertion is completely consistent with what she WAS quoted as saying, wondering how she could possibly have Covid19 while taking the drug. Her later quote that it wasn't a preventative was her realization after having had the disease. Unless you think the reporter made up those direct quotes, it's hard to see any devious spin there.

I'm always hearing how great everything is in Sweden, looks like they got it right again

https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/ ... g-covid-19
Haven't read the article yet but this is the first time I've heard of a claim that Sweden's been handling this well from a health and safety POV.

It's been pointed out that Sweden has more COVID-19 deaths than nearby Norway, Finland and Denmark. You can see they are way worse in COVID-19 deaths per 1 million at https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ than those countries, if you sort by that. Right now on that metric it's:
Sweden 291
Denmark 87
Finland 45
Norway 40

For kicks, here are those numbers for some of its other nearby countries:
Estonia 41
Latvia 9
Lithuania 18
Poland 19
Germany 86

Since South Korea and Taiwan were mentioned, those numbers are 5 and 0.3. Singapore was doing well, until it wasn't recently. They're at 3.
Sweden is still nowhere near 'herd immunity,' even though it didn't go into lockdown
https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/21/health/s ... index.html

Just 7.3% of Stockholm had Covid-19 antibodies by end of April, study shows
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... oronavirus

So current COVID-19 deaths per 1 million for the above countries per https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ are now these:
Sweden 384
Denmark 97
Finland 55
Norway 43

Estonia 48
Latvia 12
Lithuania 22
Poland 26
Germany 99

Notice who is not wearing a mask, and who is. The high ranking officials are in front, Xi in the center.

Masks protect other people. Little people in China and in the White House wear masks. Xi and Trump don't.
