Scientists Refuse to be Silenced: Climate Change

Thu Apr 04, 2019 3:06 pm

https://www.theguardian.com/environment ... _clipboard

A scientific advisory committee on climate change disbanded by the Trump administration for not having enough industry representation reformed with help from Columbia University and the American Meteorological society to complete their work and issue findings.

Findings: AGW is a massive threat, and firing scientists does not make it go away.

Who wudda thunk ?!?

Has anybody here read the report ?

One snippet: $500 Billion USD in damages from AGW by the end of the century.
This gives some context to Republican talking point that we cannot "afford" renewable energy

As economist Dean Baker's pet peeve is, big numbers need context. This one does not look so bad, compared to US budget (0.2% per year), let alone GDP. However, it will be unequally distributed, with certain regions and classes bearing the brunt of it, and probably does not reflect properly the disruption from immigration and loss of quality of life.

You misunderstand. Up to 10% of GDP by the turn of the century.

Assume a high GDP growth rate, and any damage will look small.

Damage might well prevent any GDP growth.
