Nature's engineers have a 3+ billion year head start on us. How do they make the things they need - directly around them and within their environment - without killing their environment?

Wonderful talk. Nature can clean without soap, grow perfect lenses, color without paint, and create complex structures in-place without hazardous chemicals, pollution, or damage to the organism or it's offspring. Now that's an engineering degree I'd pay to get!
