Forum tips & best threads for new members?

Mon May 06, 2013 3:34 pm

The Electric Generation (http://theelectricgeneration.org) would like to feature a few of the best existing forum resources for EV drivers or those considering becoming one- including, of course, MyNissanLEAF.com.

As some of you know, however, joining some of these forums can seem overwhelming at first- a bit like drinking from a firehose in terms of all the information. What would be your first tips and threads on this forum to read for those just joining- whether they're already LEAF drivers or not?

Thanks,

chelsea

PS- yes, I will also be using this information to encourage more Nissan folks to jump in. :)

Good to see you posting on MNL again, Chels! My recommendation would be the forum wiki in addition to a short list of most relevant threads.

That would be great, and very welcome. I've noticed a sharp drop-off in terms of their activity on the forum. It would be nice to see someone in an official capacity check in once in a while ;-)

I always encourage people to look at the Battery Capacity section of the Wiki, as that gives them some realistic expectations about Battery Capacity loss and some of the steps they can take to try to minimize it:

http://www.mynissanleaf.com/wiki/index. ... acity_Loss" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am also partial to a thread titled:

"Stoaty's Guide to Energy Efficient Driving of the Leaf"

http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=5508" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also, a thread on Tony's Range Chart (don't have it on the tip of my fingers) would be good.

2013 Tesla Model S85 with 251 miles rated range at full charge

Here you go. I have a number of bit.ly links I could share for some of the popular topics.

i would list one of the self-help mod threads, such as the horn install.
it has pictures and shows the true, community-aid and friendly nature of our group.

Here is the EVSE mod to add a lock:

Here is the horn mod:

Definitely add the link to http://evseupgrade.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

All good ideas. The Wiki should be a first read. We seem to get a lot of questions, and probably always will, like "Can I make this distance?" and various EVSE-related questions (types, L1-L2, costs, 3.3-6.0 KW, etc.). There seem to be a thousand confusing variations on each of those two topics.
