Location requested

Mon Jun 10, 2013 5:57 am

Constantly see requests for OPs to list their location.

Can the registration procedure request location be filled in?

It could be, but nothing can make people fill it out accurately or intelligently (Timbuktu, State of Confusion, qwertyuiop).

This has been asked for many, many times. The answer has always been no.

Could change it to a drop down list instead of fill in the blank but perhaps too much to program --- I love the ones that ask for a phone number and you fill in (your own area code) and 555-1212 which sometimes will give you a smart aleck remark like 'well, if I needed to call directory assistance I know to call you' or some such. It's OK to be anonymous but would be nice to know where in the country the person is simply because things are quite different with EV's based on where you live.

People don't have to fill it in accurately now, but that's not the point.

Making it required will save having to repeatedly ask people to give a location.

Most people will provide a simple geographic response.

I asked for this before, almost a year ago (http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9260" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). It hasn't happened. :(

I think even if a bunch of people give useless answers (e.g. Timbuktu, Earth, etc.), there will be a whole bunch more people w/meaningful answers and less of the back and forth asking for the info.

And, I've noticed you do a lot of the asking, but it really is relevant to a lot of the questions people ask, so let's keep asking to have location be required at registraion.

I think people just don't realize how useful it is when they sign up, and/or it's just easy to overlook.

Yep. I ask so often that I saved the question then use copy/paste.

I usually only ask if it is relevant... and yep, location is relevant for many of the questions asked by newbies/potential buyers.

I wish that making it required would be turned on already. So what about the people who answer w/meaningless answers? I suspect they'll be in the minority. Only then will we need to ask, if it's relevant, instead of all the time...

Re: Location requested

I've changed this thread to "requested", having read through last year's thread finding some vote against requirement, and after a year, obviously the powers that be choose not to.

Could we not require, but add emphasis to how a location would be useful?

In fact, as time rolls on, it'll be helpful to know Model year and trim, options.

In the meantime, I guess we're stuck with the status quo.
