LEAF, MNL demographics?

Fri Sep 13, 2013 3:46 pm

Are there any reliable sites that publish relatively current (&or historical) demographics on LEAF buyers? (Or are there any threads here? I couldn't find much from a cursory search online or here.)

Then a follow-up question about demographics of this forum. Even just the basics re: gender, age group, income &or profession, marital status, location, lease vs purchase, and maybe one or two more (any suggestions?).

I'd love to see either, thoroughly compiled and well-presented (as opposed to, say, "The Top 15 Markets" article that came out a while back).
I think I just felt my paradigm shift.

2012 SL (One of the colors): 2-year lease, 2012+,
2015 S w/QC (A different color): 3-year lease, 2014+,
2017 SV (Same color as 2015 S): 3-year lease, 2017+, lower monthly than either above(!)

That info is all confidential :D
Actually, all we know is where traffic is coming from. Since we don't request additional age/gender/income etc information when you registered, we don't know any of that info.

The EV Project recently published an infographic:

2 LEAFS, bought 1 week apart. 2013 S for me, 2013 SV is wife's. Both manufactured May 2013. I lost first bar at 36,000. Wife still has all bars at 50,000.

From the surveys I recall from a year or two ago, LEAF (and Volt) buyer demographics fell into a pretty narrow spectrum. They were male, middle-aged homeowners with a median family income of $140k, had multiple cars, and something like 56% [Edit: 52%] of them had post-grad degrees. IOW, a long ways from a representative cross-section of the American population.

Guy [I have lots of experience designing/selling off-grid AE systems, some using EVs but don't own one. Local trips are by foot, bike and/or rapid transit].

The 'best' is the enemy of 'good enough'. Copper shot, not Silver bullets.

It takes a while to change habits. I fit the demographic above, BUT after driving my Leaf for a week or 2, my wife says "I want one." We are now a 2 Leaf family. Not only that, both of my teen daughters (16 and 19yo) are very favorably impressed, and when they get their own cars, say they want electric....

I know my wife and I do not fit anywhere near the demographics (young, wife is a minority, lower household income) 8-) . But for us it was also a monetary issue (besides eco & tech reasons) - we have long commutes and it actually cost the same (probably a bit less) to operate our plug-ins (leaf and volt) compared to the overall cost of purchasing a cheaper vehicle but paying more for gas and maintenece. Once the cars are paid off, it definitely becomes cheaper for us.

SKEW THOSE STATISTICS!!! RAR!
DFW Public EV Station Locations
DFW Public Charging Access
Plug-In Vehicles Available in Texas
Total Locations: 254
Total EVSEs: 611
Level 1: 66 Level 2: 512 DC Fast: 33
