Problem including images in posts

Sat Mar 01, 2014 3:27 pm

My Web hosting service gives me a link for a picture that doesn't end in ".jpg", like:

If the link doesn't end in ".jpg", your software will not display the image.

Could you please fix that?

Thanks.

It's not really MNL's problem that your hosting sevice sucks.

There are plenty of free hosting services that work with the forum. I use photobucket, but there are plenty of others. Just get an account elsewhere.

Photo hosting services often provide a variety of links. Several sites that I use have a special forum version that works fine here an MNL. I'd suggest poking around for additional kinds of links with the hosting service that you use and one of them will likely include a .jpg image form that can be used with img tags here.

Just put the "image" tags around the URL to the actual picture instead of the URL to the hosting site page. The URL to the picture - used Firefox, clicked on the link you posted, clicked on the picture in the link to make it full size, right clicked on the picture to get the "view source" page. Copied the link for the actual picture and put the [img] tags around it.

Well - here is the link to the actual picture which I get with the "view image info" right click option:
http://ppl.ug/3dmmtgs5jl0/pv/?sttoken=8 ... Poj0sGGJtX" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and here it is with image tags around it:

Don't know why it seems to work for me but not for you.

^ Probably because you've already got the picture cached. Your link to the picture didn't work either until I took all that "?sttoken=...." stuff out of the link.

Edit: OK. I think I figured it out. What you need is the link as you posted it, with the ?sstoken= part of the URL removed, then add .jpg at the end and wrap it all in the open/close img tags:

http://ppl.ug/3dmmtgs5jl0/pv/8zs6MY6GRA ... sGGJtX.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The only question I have left is how you got it to serve you the token information. It's pretty clear that's the actual information for the .jpg. But I've tried a couple of different browsers now and can only get it to serve the URL as the OP posted it.

Geez - that's really funny. Just opened this thread on a different system.

It's as you surmise - that particular URL must be cached on my other system with the ?sttoken= string so I see images in my posts. When I look at the thread on a different system, no images. Everyone else reading the thread must think I see little green men too!

I got the URL info from right clicking the image in Firefox and selecting "view image info" and pulling out that URL

And a little image:

Green men? Where?

:mrgreen:

Some more weirdness then - I did that this morning from home, using Firefox on a Windows 7 machine and it didn't show me that extra information, just the URL as the OP posted it. But I just did the same thing on my Office PC (Firefox on Windows XP) and it did. I'm going to find an uncontaminated Windows 7 machine and check it on that!
