I know that all 2016 & 2017 Nissan Leaf SV and SL have a quick charging port. What about 2016 & 2107 (S Trims) ?

Welcome! QC was optional on the 2016 and 2017 S. It was part of the Quick Charge package. S-trim cars without the quick-charge package are also limited to 3.3 kW (vs 6.6 kW) with level 2 charging.

Another distinction with the S is the battery pack. All 2017 LEAFs have the 30 kWh "lettuce" pack but only the later 2016 S-cars do. Most 2016 S-trim cars have the 24 kWh "lizard" pack. To know for sure, look at the 4th digit in the VIN. A = 24 kWh, B= 30 kWh.

If you want more heat tolerance, choose the "lizard" pack. If you want more capacity and range, choose the "lettuce" (but be careful of false capacity readings from BMS resets). Please see LeftieBiker's buying a used LEAF thread in the "General" section.

Here is a link to the guide: https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=26662&p=538030 .

The philosophy behind the Leaf S was to offer an entry level Leaf below $30k, before tax incentives. To do that they made QC optional. This also gave Nissan a chance to make some money on the S, which I suspect wasn't very profitable in the 'Base' sub-trim. This will likely hold true at least until the next generation Leaf.

Cost cutting the DCFC I understand; on the other hand 3.3 kW L2 charing on a 2017 LEAF is just plain short-sighted penny pinching and/or crap marketing to 'upsell' a half-assed model instead. I was out driving our 2013 LEAF today and mused that the car just might have good years of utility ahead of it, in no small part due to the decent 6.6 kW L2 charging.

I don't disagree, but reusing parts already long in production from a previous model or generation is well established. Toyota reused the whole Gen II Prius powertrain in the Prius C - a car that was never popular and just got axed. I think that this was due in large part to the throttle mapping, which made the car seem deadly slow unless you nearly floored it, despite having the drivetrain from a larger car.

Question regarding the quick charge package.

My 2017 S has a quick charge port, so seems to have the package. Does that also mean that it has 6.6 kW charging too, and not the standard 3.3kW?

Thanks. We're getting quotes from an electrician to install a 240V charge station, so that is good news!
