Re: I get to Drive the Leaf Monday 8_9_10

When Nissan 1st spoke about Leaf there was talk about the rental companies, and then they changed their course wanted to take it to the retail market instead. Until the infrastructure is really there, a person renting the car for 2 or 3 days would have no where to charge it. I don't think they are going to be making you wait longer. It has to do with battery production and the fact that they are tooling up the us factory which will be ready in a year. I had to edit this post due to ever changing quantities being reported about leaf availability. In the end it looks like good news for all.

Are you saying a total of 1000 units in 4 months (Dec'10 to Mar'11) Or 1,000 per month ?

Initially Nissan had said their capacity is 13K by Mar '11 (when Nissan's fiscal year ends). So, we could assume US will get some 6K cars by then.

Can you find out if we'll be able to turn OFF the stupid VSP? I heard it comes on automatically at start up, but there's a switch to turn it on and off. Someone has said that the switch is going to be removed for production. Thanks!

Sorry but I don't think it's stupid at all. I've almost been run over by a Prius reversing out of a parking spot on electric only power. (I'm not deaf)

The car drove great. I remember seeing the button for the vsp, but cannot remember if they mentioned losing it for production models. The car has amaing torque. Felt like a strong v6 off the line, incredibly spacious, lots of fun gadgets to play with.

Do you remember how high the driver seats are ? By looking at the specs and comparing to other Nissan cars, it looks like it will be 6 inches higher than my '98 Maxima ...

I had a 96 Maxima. Seats were very low in that car. That was one of the only downsides to the car from consumer reports "not enough seat cushion". The leaf seats reminded me of the Rogue I drive right now. High off the floor, sitting like a seat. Ton's of headroom especially in the front, and the back seats very similar to Versa.

I think so. Go sit in a Rogue, excellent for not so tall people.
