Vacaville Nissan. Although it took an act of congress to get the guy to even go ask.. He started out trying to convince me that they did not know the price because Nissan had not set the price. This was just last Friday. Once I accused of him of tring to BS me, he went and asked. He says his general manager assures me that there will be no dealer mark-up. Sounds very Apteraish.

I think several posts today make the debate on this moot, fortunately!

https://mail.google.com/mail/?hl=en&shv ... 7e28a0df69

According to Perry, there are major differences between a LEAF sale and a conventional car sale that should put to rest the question of price gouging. “The difference in the distribution process is, it’s not an allocation to the dealer, it’s a customer order, so [the customers] have the control,” said Perry on the sidelines of the groundbreaking event. As he explains it, if you go to any particular dealer and say ‘I have an order, would you like to deliver my lease?’ and they come back with a price $5,000 higher than list, you can simply take your order and go to another dealer. In this system, the people with multiple Nissan dealerships in their area will be at an advantage, but even the folks with only 2 or 3 within 60 miles will have excellent bargaining power.

Not really - it just means we now are sure we can select the dealer we want - like many of us were guessing.

See the below.

So, all what we are doing with this list is to go directly to a dealer we know won't try to over charge instead of wasting time at a greedy dealer.

i still find it unfathomable that a dealer would try to add any premium to a car that was offered in the way the initial launch of the Leaf was.

this is purely marketing and the best way to derail a successful marketing campaign is a "bait and switch" tactic where some dealers are offering MSRP and some are not. i dont think that Nissan expects us to "gamble" our dealer choice in this situation.

the excuse that a dealer can charge a premium due to "market demand" is laughable. this is a product introduction. of course there is greater demand than there is product. the expected output for the Leaf is expected to be 1/10th the normal capacity. like duh

i purchased my 2010 Prius on the Priority Purchase Program at a significant discount. although i had no issues with my dealer, there were some reports of other dealers adding excessive "dealer prep" fees most of which are limited by state laws. Toyota Corporate was pro-active in addressing these concerns and everyone did end up getting their car at the price stated along with basic transportation and prep fees only.

i expect the Leaf to be handled the exact same way
