I can't even fathom having "Geek Squad" install a 240V anything... Seems like insanity!
True. I think they will get an actual electrician to do that part of the job.

Ofcourse this aspect of Ford Focus EV has been discussed a lot. The expectation is that the actual competitor to Focus EV - the MY2012 Leaf will have the upgraded charger.

I'll get excited with they come out with an actual range, delivery estimate and price. Being heavier than the LEAF with the same size pack, I have my doubts about the mileage.

Since Leaf got 73 miles rating, Focus EV will probably get less than 70 miles. Since they haven't announced any other range - that 68 miles (or whatever) will stick in everyone's mind. Not good for Ford.

Since I doubt Geek Squad has any licensed professional electricians on staff, they will undoubtedly subcontract the work.

Which means you're probably better off declining their install service and getting your own electrician. Cut out the middleman.

If they can mount a Plasma TV on the wall, or plug in a dryer, they can install an EVSE. Licensed electrician will install the outlet.

The dog & pony show they did in CES was really misleading. They showed a couple of guys come with the EVSE, plug it in and start charging - implying that it will take minutes to get the "Ford EVSE" installed. Focus EV customers will be in for a rude shock when they find out the truth.

BTW, they were talking as if Leviton's was the only Plugin kind. Blink is plugin as well.

This just exemplifies how easy the install is actually is. I would far prefer GS to AV ;)

I think Nissan is counting on the QC to become quickly available where Ford is assuming QC is 5 or 10+ years out before there is enough to warrant that option.
Sad that Nissan's AV does not have a simple low cost 16a evse. With AV putting in the 30a, Leaf buyers will be easier to trade over to Ford.

"The 6.6 charger is a really new technology."
How is the 6.6 charger really new technology? The EV1 came with a 6.6 kW charger even though it was external.
No kidding - these types of chargers have been around for ages - nothing new.

Notice they say 120v charging in 12 hours.

Assuming "normal" 12-amp current from 120v, that's 1440 watts. 12 hours of 1.44 kW is 17.28 kWh.

That would mean they have at most a "usable" battery pack capacity of about 16 kWh (grin, LEAF wins). :)

May be they assume 16 amps - so 16*120*12 = 23 kwh. I guess just wrong information.

They might also assume that the pack is not fully depleted.
No. They are saying 12 hours for Focus EV compared to 20 hours for Leaf.

I think they are saying their L1 is capable of 16 Amps, instead of Leaf's 12 Amps.

I wonder if the Ford L1 will be selectable between 12 & 16, would have worked well on Leaf also.

Nissan should end this marketing ploy by Ford by immediately going to 6,6 in the US. The longer that Nissan delays doing this the more damage will be done to the image of the Leaf.
