How does Nissan get new charge station data.

Thu Aug 22, 2019 4:06 pm

As per title. How does the mothership get location information on newcharge stations. Is it crowd sourced from us the users as we find and connect to them? Anybody know the data flow?

Thanks.

I doubt it was originally crowdsourced. Ages ago, it was a huge pain in the butt to even submit a correction so I stopped bothering. My '13 Leaf would claim there's a charging station somewhere which didn't exist. I looked all over the area and it wasn't in Plugshare either.

Perhaps it partly comes from here.com (formerly Navteq: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navteq). From https://www.nissanusa.com/connect/faq
Steps to report an EV charging station that is not on the map in your LEAF navigation system.

Follow these steps:

Visit the HERE Map Creator website: http://mapcreator.here.com OR visit access link via the Nissan Owner Portal website: https://www.nissanusa.com/owners
Sign in
When the map loads, type the city and state of the area where you want to add the EV charging station.
Click on the magnifying glass icon to zoom in to the location on the map where the missing EV POI is located. Click and drag to scroll the map if you need to.
On the right side of the screen, click on the [Add Place] icon in the center of the control panel.
Click on the location of the street where the EV station is located.
On the list of places categories that appears on the left, type "PE" in the search box, then choose "Petrol/Gasoline Station" from the category list.
For Place Name, enter "EV Charging Station".
For the remaining requested fields, enter any of the other information you are able to supply.
Click the [Submit] button.
Navteq and TeleAtlas were two major map providers for GPS units and car nav systems. TeleAtlas got bought by TomTom.
