Just a notice from Ecotality that they intend to default on their warranty positions and sell all their assets.

I had an open service / warranty ticket so I got a copy of the filing.

To get mine, they would have to go to court, get a judgement, (I maintain I have performed under my portion of the contract), Find my EVSE, Pay somebody to come out and remove it, which I would make as difficult as possible...... and then what would they have?

A used POS Giant Blink that needs a new Cord.

I'm going to assume it's mine :ugeek:

Who would want it besides me? I'm going to guess that they have little value to anyone else unless the buyer intends to stand-up the company and continue operating it.

Mine is on the list, even though title was transferred to me on January 1. I have the signed documentation, so my mistaken inclusion on the list doesn't bother me. The residential contracts that we signed are still in effect, so title will transfer on the expiration date, or earlier, if ETEC or its successor refuse to honor the warranty provisions. Schedule B29 is a very long list of all the Blink L2 and DCFC units. I wouldn't worry about somebody coming for your charging unit.
 
mine is listed at $162. i wonder if the differences relate to the residual value, ie how long they have been in our hands. the ones at my workplace are each $681, and they were installed about a year or more later.

I guess I must have missed the date. Am I correct to say that you contacted Ecotality, and asked them to sign a "release"?

I know my original contract with Ecotality already expired, and I was very careful not to sign any of the "new contracts" they have been asking me to sign. Nevertheless, my address is also on the list!
 
Yep, it would cost more than $159 to come and retrieve it! Mine is listed too, BTW...

It makes me smile when looking at the list and seeing all the book value they have assigned to those assets (especially the DC FC)...That makes the company appear to be so valuable!!! I wonder if the auction bids will be influenced by this list? Hope not....

Sooooooooo, I suppose it's time to write software so we, as in current hardware owners, can access the stored charge events and keep that part of the unit's features usable. Although, I am building an "Open EVSE" unit in anticipation of trouble. I knew I should not have signed that agreement last Dec. Oh well, I'll just say that I was supporting the industry and EV's in general. I guess my Blink no longer needs to be connected to the internet.

There, that makes me feel better.

P.S. I believe the value is residual depreciation based on contract expiration.

Actually, this list is very useful. I learned that there are two other Blink units on my street, one on the next block and one on the block after that. Only a bit farther are at least two more. Assuming everyone keeps his/her unit, we could band together as a group and agree to make our units available to others in the group in a sort of local plugshare reverse tontine. Whoever has the first dead Blink wins the right to use the Blinks that are still working, and so on until the last one dies.

Yes, I was wondering about that also. Sad to see this, especially everyone's address and book value listed in the 314-page long filing. Somehow, I feel fortunate now that I didn't qualify for a Blink station. ChargePoint appears to be have their act much better together.

I'd like to hear discussion of the possible downside of opening the sealed case at this point and pulling the connectors to make it "dumb". I certainly will bypass them to keep it running if I have any problem whatsoever with the "smart" circuits in the Blink EVSE that can't/won't be addressed anymore by the Blink service people, but what are the possible downsides of such an action. I rarely access the unit over the internet anymore and don't use its timing function. What obligation do I have to the bankrupt company or its successor now if they have abrogated their service responsibility under the contract?

There is some awesome hardware inside of the Blink unit and I hope some have the skills to help write software to take advantage of it. I know that when the Blink first came out a couple of people were playing around with the software, but I'm not sure what ever happened with that.

Well, that's up to the buyer of the assets. They could choose to honor the warranty and thus the existing contract would stay in effect. Since most of the residential units go out of contract at the end of the year, I would expect the purchaser to write off those assets.
 
That is more of a legal question. The old "Blink" company would go after people with their lawyers for petty reasons so it's tough to say with the new management of if they still retain their same firm.
