Car / Capacity Loss Data - Post Yours Here

Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:32 pm

Seems like we could use a thread for people to post their car history/driving/charging/storage habits and battery capacity information. If possible, I'd like to keep the thread to just data posts, as there are already other discussion threads...If we get enough posts, maybe we'll start to see some interesting trends pop up besides the obvious...As the months go by, people can re-visit their post and add to their previous data.

Here goes my data:

LEAF Purchase Date: 1/4/2011 (almost 18 months old)

Hours/week of additional charging time besides primary (home or public): 4-6

Total DC Fast Charge events: 3
Predominant Battery Temperature Bar reading: Mostly 6, some 5
Any extreme Battery Temperature reads? Never 1-4 or above 6
# of times Car has been Turtled: 0
# of Low Battery Warnings Received: 2
# of Very Low Battery Warnings Received: 0
Do you charge to 100% and leave car for more than a few hours (Never, Sometimes, Usually)? Never

Four Most Recent 100% GID Readings & Climate Control Boost afterwards - June 20-23, 2012: 267/na, 265/na, 263/268, 265/271
Capacity Loss estimate range: 271/281 = 3.5% (low) to 263/281 = 6.4% (high)

If anyone else posts some interesting data that I didn't think of, I'll add it to mine....

Have you lost a capacity bar? No

LEAF Purchase Date: 11/28/11
Color: Silver
Location: Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33331
Current Odometer reading: 5,900
Days/week driven: 6
Average miles/day: 39 weekdays, 10 weekends
Percent of City Street / Freeway travel: 20% / 80%
Ave Freeway speed: 63

Days/week 80% primary charge: 6
Days/week 100% primary charge: 0
Is primary charging more daytime or overnight? Overnight
Is primary charging location in garage or outside: Garage
Hours/week of additional charging time besides primary (home or public): 0

Total DC Fast Charge events: 0
Predominant Battery Temperature Bar reading: 6 (recall seeing a 5 once last winter and have never seen a 7)
Any extreme Battery Temperature reads? None
# of times Car has been Turtled: 0
# of Low Battery Warnings Received: 4 (only during range tests)
# of Very Low Battery Warnings Received: 0
Do you charge to 100% and leave car for more than a few hours? never

Most Recent 100% GID Readings & Climate Control Boost afterwards: Unknown. Don’t have the necessary tool to measure

Capacity Loss estimate range:

Range always seemed low with the last range test in May producing only 64 miles from a 100% charge to LBW with a 4.0 kWh/mile reading on the dash, suggesting about an 8.5% loss from the very beginning.

However, the range from an 80% charge to the loss of the fourth bar can vary by as much as 20% depending on temperature. High temps in the 90s and lows in the 80s have resulted in as low as 32 miles from an 80% charge to loss of the fourth bar. More moderate temps in the 60s and 70s can yield as much as 38 miles from 80% charge to the loss of the fourth bar.

I think that we should add the question "Have you lost a capacity bar?".

I've updated my post with that as the first question.
