Hi Folks,

Started my morning off with the NissanConnectEV app unable to get a battery status. Not thinking much about it, given the slow and buggy nature, I hopped into the car for the drive to work, and noticed a yellow triangle warning. Ran LeafSpy, and found P312a p3131 u1000. Once I got to work, I shut down, then powered back up. Yellow triangle was gone, but still can’t seem to get a battery status.

After work, I plan to do another diagnostics with LeafSpy, then pull the TCU fuse and see if that makes any difference. Not sure if anyone else has run up against this before? On a seemingly related incident, last week, I ran up on a failed scheduled charge, and had to drive to work knowing I couldn’t make it home. Fortunately we have chargers here at work as well. I haven’t seen the repeat incident of that yet, but when I plug it in, I ALWAYS wait until I hear the clunking of the solenoids before walking away.

Thanks in advance for any guidance or info

Yes, failure to update status or send charge complete messages are first clues that TCU is locked up. EV light goes out after driving, but it generally takes clearing DTCs, pulling fuse, and clearing DTCs again to completely cure my 2015. I have done it perhaps a half dozen times since getting TCU upgrade in December 2016.

Those set of DTC are indicative of the TCU locking up, which is backed up by you being unable to get battery status. Many, MANY people have run up against this; e.g. http://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=21573&p=486228#p486228

Definitely pull the TCU fuse and then clear the DTCs with Leaf Spy pro.

Yes. Fuse pull when the TCU stops responding to commands and queries.

After clearing P3131 via Leaf Spy Pro, to help mitigate the stupid yellow ! car and P3131 from coming back, do what I do at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=515624#p515624. It seemed to help this guy: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=516373#p516373.

I really wish Nissan would fix this crap.

I think I’ve gone many months now with a yellow ! car and P3131 ever since doing this. The TCU bad state/lockups still happen every now and then, but I do like being able to query charging status, receive charging complete notifications and send the commands.

Pulled fuse twice for 3 SEC each time. No dice. It can communicate from the car out, but not from the app in. Now has P31C2. This looks new.

Once in a while, I have to disconnect the negative 12-volt battery cable. I have also pulled another fuse (related to the navigation/radio system along with the 20-ampere fuse that supplies the TCU. Also, try leaving the fuse out for longer time.

I meant to say 30 SEC. Anyway, had to pull the negative terminal, and resolved it instantly.

P31C2 is also part of the problem (listed in the link I posted above).

Glad it's working for you now, but it's interesting that you needed to pull the negative terminal to get it to resolve. Are you getting text messages/notifications (on charging complete)?

Weirdly, the fix recommended by my dealership was to uninstall and reinstall the NissanConnect EV & Services app on my Android phone. And that worked. Both times that I needed to do it.

For me the yellow triangle and car-with-exclamation-point were coming on every time I started the car after the car was supposed to notify me ; e.g. charge complete, or parked near a charger and not plugged in.

Try http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=515624#p515624. It's helped me. It seems to have also helped http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=516373#p516373.

Thanks cwerdna, but I'm not about to give up my "You forgot to plug in!" reminders. That's the #1 reason why I replaced the TCU!

For now I'll just reinstall the phone app as needed. Annoying, weird, but it works.

As I posted at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=534823#p534823 regarding NTB18-045:

I still haven't seen a copy of the DTC as NissanHelp.com still doesn't have it. A Google search did turn up https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchResults.action?searchType=PROD&prodType=V&targetCategory=A&activeTab=3&searchCriteria.model_yr=2015&searchCriteria.make=NISSAN&searchCriteria.model=LEAF&searchCriteria.prod_ids=1977440 which does have this text
2011-2015 LEAF; 12 VOLT BATTERY LOSES CHARGE AND/OR TELEMATICS SERVICES DO NOT WORK This bulletin applies only to vehicles equipped with a 3G Telematics control unit. IF YOU CONFIRM The 12 V battery continuously loses its charge and/or Remote Telematics services do not work. NOTE: DTCs P3131 (SYSTEM SHUTOFF ERROR) and/or P31C2 (TCU) may be found stored. ACTION 1. Refer to page 2, step 2 in the SERVICE PROCEDURE to confirm this bulletin applies to the vehicle being worked on. 2. If this bulletin applies, reprogram the Telematics control unit (TCU).
Yay! P3131 was exactly what I'd see accompanying the yellow ! car light when I had saved charging locations and auto-saving of them.

I'm having the car taken in for the annual battery check and will have them apply NTB18-045. Maybe I should go turn the auto-saving of charging locations tonight.
