I have a 2015 Leaf SV.

I have been noticing a very audible click coming from the front left of the car when I start and sometimes when I stop. It is just a single click, not a repeating one.

It is not every time, but enough that I have been noticing it.

Im not exactly sure what is causing this sound, anyone have any idea where to start looking?

THANKS

It's not just LEAFs that exhibit that issue, all Nissan's with the same drive axle have the same issue apparently.

Refer to NTB 12-055 if taking it to Nissan for repair

Well, that explains why I wasnt having an easy time finding it.

Is the cost typically covered due to the TSB?

It might be covered under warranty, honestly not sure. I'm planning on doing it myself, as it looks like an easy job that I can combine with the gearbox oil change.

But, if you get it done under warranty please post back :)

The dealer wouldn't do it under warranty. I had a mechanic I know do it, took 40 minutes and charged me $50.

The hardest part was getting the M7 Moly grease (I got a small tube from Honda).

The washers and cotter pins should be replaced, but the nuts are pretty heavy duty and really dont need to be replaced.

I got the service bulletin, I will scan it and add it to this thread.

If it reappears, Im going to do it myself, it was not a big deal.

@Spacecoastbill Thanks for posting back! I'll definitely be doing this myself then sometime over the next few weeks, so a copy of the TSB would be great :D

It would be covered under the bumper to bumper 36,000 3 year warranty

Shouldn't this be covered by the 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty?

Truth be told, it should be covered by Nissan no matter what. Its a widespread issue covering several model years which indicates the issue is systemic.

It is a manufactured oversight at best...

True.

Its not only model years, its almost all models of Nissan Vehicles as well.

Test drove a 2018 CPO SV with 2600 miles on it over the weekend.
It was a 2 year old brand new car basically and it VERY clearly had the problem at every start/stop or application of regen.

The sales guy of course said it was the brake pads and that every car from every brand does it. I will have to give him credit because that actually has some ring of truth but it's not the case here and i have not had that issue on a Japanese car since the mid 90's when they put the little wing tab things on the shims and smothered them in high temp grease. Anyway...

I'm not remotely surprised that a Nissan dealer would not catch a brand systemic issue on a CPO car but it's really concerning that Nissan would not correct this on the Gen2 axles after years of knowledge.

Gotta love car salesmen and dealer service writers. They should all have "Yeah that's normal" tattooed on their foreheads.
