Has anyone tried one of these Apple carplay streaming dongles that allows you to stream video on the screen. Would like to be able to catch up on some Netflix while traveling. Currently, we just use the Ipad .

No idea what you're referring to.

Apple's CarPlay guidelines and entitlements AFAIK will not allow for video to be played on the car's screen. See pages 3 to 7 of https://developer.apple.com/carplay/documentation/CarPlay-App-Programming-Guide.pdf.
