If you live in Washington State or Portland OR area, "NoCord" is available now. If not, the DIY version will be here THIS Summer.

Very interesting! Is it actually NEC compliant? The videos on his site (nocord.com) make it a bit easier to understand. Looks like you have to provide your own EVSE as well, so definitely not cheap, but worth it for some. Makes a lot of sense for anyone with a garage.

No details on certs or anything like that but guessing Stuart has his t's crossed and what not. It is a rather safe design since it relies at least partially on the J-1772 protocol.

As far as spendy? If you want an expensive automated charging system, I have one!

WOW! Looks like Doc Brown from Back To The Future has been working on this... Seems like a lot of hardware and work to save not plugging in..

I think that the future is more an inductive pad on the ground of some kind of connect that is low to the ground.

Induction sounds good but lower efficiency is an issue. It would matter little around here (last bill 8.6 cents/kwh) but no so much in areas that see over 25 cents per kwh.

Besides, talk of inductive charging has been going on for a while now. Know anyone who is using it?
