How do you check individual cell condition on a sealed traction battery?

Tue Nov 24, 2020 12:26 pm

I picked up a 2012 battery recently and was wondering who has or if there is a tool or device to plug into the data port at the battery and check the condition of each cell? Is that possible? Seems to me there was a video of someone doing this at one time.

Surely I could take off the cover quick enough and poke around with a volt meter or dig through the boxes from the 2013 leaf donor wiring and drive trains to pick apart, which would take a bunch of brain power on my part since they don't just plug in because they are two different plugs.

If there is some way to plug into the port, maybe use leafspy, I would love to hear your thoughts about it here.

Thanks

Depends on whether you have access to a 3D printer and are willing to DIY one...

I think there might be a New Zealand company that makes a similar device, but I can't find it via a Google search.

Thanks alozzy. Just need to get the 2011, 2012 version.
I went to the wrecking yard today but the yard guys just cut and toss them when they pull the traction battery.

You might get lucky with a Google Images search, if you can find the part name or number. Usually, a Google Images search that matches the part you're looking for leads to a website with very relevant info.

For anyone else that might be looking, here is one for the 2011-2012 models.
