The Climate Control Timer can be set in the S Model, even while charging, and even when using L1/120V. (my current setup)

The Climate Control Timer interface/usability: Set the time that the heat/cooling function goes OFF and it automatically turns itself on 30 minutes earlier. So if you want to warm or cool the cabin before leaving at 7:30am, set the Climate Control Timer to 7:30. It will then go on at 7:00am and off at 7:30am. The time period is pre-set to 30 minutes. The settings allow for a climate ready time based on 10 minute intervals, so it can be set for 7:40 or 7:50, but not 7:45.

It gets set in a 24 hour format. That means 13:00 is 1:00pm, 18:00 is 6:00pm, 23:00 is 11:00pm, and 00:00 is 12:00am.

Use the [] and * buttons immediately under the vent to the left of the sterring wheel to control the LCD display. This document will use parenthesis () to identify what the screen looks like.

If plugged in, start car, wait 2 seconds for the message (Can't Start, Pull Out Charge Plug) and press []Exit or wait for message to clear.
Press [] 0-5 times to see the Settings Menu.
(Settings, >Skip, >%Change, >Charging Timer)
With ">Skip" highlighted, Press *Next 3 times so that "Climate Ctrl Timer" is highlighted.
(Settings, Charging Timer, Climate Ctrl Timer)
Press []Enter
(Climate Ctrl Timer, : Off,{Clock/Heater Image}, To)
Press *Change
(Climate Ctrl Timer, <-Back, >On, >Off)
Press *Next to hightlight ">On", then Press []Enter
(Climate Ctrl Timer, To, 0:00)
Press *Change to change Hour of desired Climate Ready Time {0-23}
Press []Enter
Press *Change to change Minute of desired Climate Ready Time {00-50}
Press []Enter
(Climate Ctrl Timer, : On,{Clock/Heater Image}, To 7:30) <-- or whatever time you set it to
Press []Enter
(Settings, >Skip, >%Change, >Charging Timer)
Power car OFF, plug in for charging(if not already plugged in)

If you set your desired Climate Ready Time within the next 30 minutes and you were plugged in previous to starting this, the Auto, Recirculate, and A/C or Heat dash lights will go on immediately after powering off the car. This will occur whether the car is charging or was fully charged and still plugged in.
Also, a Single Blue light nearest the driver will be flashing while the climate control system is running.
No Manual changes will take effect while pre-heating/cooling, any attempt will flash all climate lights for a couple of seconds then return to Auto, Recirculate, and A/C or Heat.

Note: The Pre-heat while plugged in at 120V is lousy. (Chicago Winter 15F outside today, about 30F in my garage) I'm looking forward to getting my 240V service in my garage as the Pre-Heat is reported to be much better.

On 240V equipment it works great. Even when it was single digits here and my car sitting outside it was nice and toasty when I hopped in. Don't forget that you can turn the heated seat on too and that will work with the preheat also.

Thanks for the great detail in your post. I tried it out on my 2013 S the other day (our first cold morning of Fall) and it worked great. However, I thought the point was to use power only from the ESVE and not from the battery? When I tried it, my battery percentage was only 76% (set to charge to 80%). Now I now it usually stops charging at 79% when set to 80% but I have never seen it as low as 76%. Also, the light on my TurboCord 240v was not blinking like it does while charging. Is this normal? Is it something to do with the Turbocord?

Do the charge timer and climate control timer have to be used together? It seems like if I set it so that the climate control timer so that is kicks on 10 minutes before the car finishes charging, it might work as expected.

The manual clearly states the climate control timer does not draw power from the battery and heating/cooling will be limited to the power available from the EVSE.

Please someone else share their experience.

If you were charging to a target time of say 7AM and you stepped in and enabled the pre-heat as the OP described after the charge was started, I should think the car would be left between a rock and hard place. It either ignores your pre-heat request, or it will not reach desired charge level. The power comes from the plug, but this power cannot then charge the battery. At Level 1 charge rates, a significant % of the plug's power goes in to pre-heat and does not leave much for charge.

So, I'd suspect that if you scheduled both the charge time and cabin pre-heat time far enough in advance that the charge system could begin the charge sooner, then you would reach the 80% target.

In other words, I think your charge was short because of power that could not go in to charging, not due to battery power that went in to cabin pre-heat.

Is there a way to set the timer so it comes on at different times during the day? Say you want your car to be good in the mornings and afternoon?
I'm assuming that it can be done manually by changing the settings before you leave your car if you know what time you'll leave.

Thank you for this guide!
