300-mile LEAF to be Announced this Month?

Tue Oct 08, 2019 7:30 am

Briefly mentioned at 18:40 in the below video, the host mentions that Nissan will introduce a new LEAF with 40% more range at the Tokyo Auto Show, which I understand is at the end of October 2019. My math says that the new car would have a 315-mile range using an 85 kWh battery. Has this been leaked elsewhere?

No. I simply took 1.4 x 226 and 1.4 x 62.

I hope you guys are correct but I still think TFL made an error, as the recent news reported was about their crossover. And I thought I heard the crossover was suppose to have 40% more range, so I find it a big coincidence that TFL said the same number for the LEAF, as well that nobody else has heard a whisper of a longer range leaf.

Especially since the plus was just introduced for 2019. Hey, I hope I'm wrong.

But the simplest explanation is that TFL made a goof.

I think this is what the TFL guys mixed up.

Reasonable.

If so, 40% more than what ? Does Nissan have a current CUV they are using as a baseline ?

That's a good question as well. I just looked through a bunch of the announcements about Nissan and the Motor show and the only thing I did find is that they will have the e+ at the show, which was described as has 40% more range than the standard leaf. So maybe this too could have led to confusion.

Based on Nissan's press release on the show, it sounds like they are talking about the existing Leaf+ having the extra 40% capacity:

As the article says: "40% additional range (up to 458 kilometers under the WLTC Japan standard)"

Yes, BUT, It also states the Leaf e+ that was introduced earlier this year has the 40% additional range.

Looks like it’s the Plus with the 62 kWh battery.

Yah. I tend to agree. The Eplus has about 40 percent more range than the standard leaf. I think they calculated that 458 number incorrectly from the existing Eplus. Or they are talking about a 2021 model.
