Re: Bridgestone EP422 tires swapped for Michelin Primacy MXV

Tony;
I have my wheels and tires finally.
Some drivel about a hurricane wiping out where I live.
Always some excuse

Anyway, I now have a VERY technical question about the upgrade.

How Did you get all the wheels and tires in the Leaf to get to the Tire Installation Store?
(I had to order the tires online. Nobody here had them)

Just kidding.
You don't need you to tell me. I'll figure it out.
But I suspect at least one tire is going to wind up on the roof :ugeek:

I'll post pictures when I'm done.

Put everything in a trash bags (so the tires don't leave marks) and use that front seat, too. Yes, you might end up with one on the roof.

Bah! No need to put everything in trash bags! Put them on your hitch mounted cargo carrier (instead of the cooler shown in this pic):

Or make a custom rack like this:

I put the Michelin MXM4 tires on the car on Friday, and initial results show a hit to range. Saturday we did 80 miles of driving, with an hour of trickle charging and 10 minutes of QC. I struggled to get 4.0 m/kWh with careful driving at 55 or less, and had expected >4.5. My wife drove the car to work today (63 mile RT) and usually has 11-20 miles left on the GOM, depending on traffic. Today was a faster day but she had 6 left on the GOM instead of 11+...

Hopefully they're improve after breaking in some. I haven't had a chance to test their traction yet, but the tread blocks sure look meatier than the Ecopias.

In black trash bags, two fit very nicely in the rear with the other two in the back seats. That's how I did it when I brought back my four old tires.

They will break in, but about 1000 miles. Run 45-50 psi. Rated for 51.

I can't comment on the MXM4s but I noted very little difference when I first put on the MXV4s, something like 0.1 M/Kwh... As Tony said, though, regardless, they'll get better as they wear in. New tires are always less efficient than older tires... I run 44 pounds in my MXV4s, which is their maximum sidewall rating.

As requested, Here are some pictures of the new setup on the black car.
Also a shot of the new wheels next to a stock Leaf to compare.
Car feels ROCK steady on the road.
Serious difference (improvement) in handling even over the 16" MXV4's.

Guess I have some stock rims and EP422's to sell.

Any verdict on the new Michelin Energy VS the Primacy? Pros/Cons? I believe there is a LRR version and non-LRR version of the Primacy as well. Looking to pull the trigger soon as there is a sale and the specs on these tires are confusing. MXM VS MXV?
