I'm on my second set of tires - last winter was the change - with 1 replacement also due to a nail

I'm still only 1 capacity bar down and no problems with the 12 volt

all this with a grand total of over 37k miles

Electricflower and I talked about getting together to do another mini-tech session including cabin filter changes (just ordered 4 on eBay, 2 are spoken for...I can also give you the link: $6.20 delivered). How does the morning of Sunday, January 3, 2016 sound?

Mainly I figure we can talk LEAF and EV, have a coffee and leftover Christmas cookies, change out a few cabin filters, and perhaps do a tire rotation if needed (although I don't have the fancy setup as Dr. Hermann. We can also ogle my Tesla for those interested.

I can offer my place in the KCMO Northlands if I can convince my wife to let us barge in on the in-laws still being in town, but I need to find out a level of interest.

I can offer one L2 EVSE @ 20A for those who need a charge. Otherwise, you'll have to go up the road to HyVee and WalMart. The closest L3 is at the Liberty PriceChopper.

Who's up tentatively up for it?

Just thought I'd bump this thread and put out another reminder of the LEAF tech gathering (which right now is 3 people including myself) tomorrow at 10 AM. I bought some extra cabin filters and we might rotate tires as well, then sit in the kitchen and sip some hot beverages and chat a bit.

In other KC EV "news", I saw a couple of relatively new LEAF owners (Oct 2015) at the Barry Road HyVee last night and we exchanged information. They were using the DCQC, but there were L2s remaining. When I came out, they were gone, but a Tesla P90D was at a L2.

Also, I've come to the I-29 and NW 64th HyVee a few times and found the DCQC in use. Maybe I'm imagining things, but I do see more and more LEAFs and other plug-ins (mostly Volts) around. We went to see the Nutcracker before Christmas and every L2 at the Kauffman Center was in use during our show. I do hope the trend continues for plug-ins, but we might have to start using more charging etiquette (e.g. "OK to Unplug" hangers for opportunity charging; I got these and keep handing them out: https://www.etsy.com/listing/240583087/ ... -hang-tags) as we compete for the chargers.

Finally, after this last snowfall, I keep toying with the idea of a set of winter tires, but I balk at the wheel package price at TireRack. A big price chunk is the wheel itself, but I don't like the idea of unmounting and mounting tires every season. Anyone have a set of LEAF wheels from a parts car they are willing to sell? Alternately, I could look for the right size and bolt pattern steel wheels.

TTFN,

Well, I know I cried 'wolf' earlier but today I really did lose the second bar. So I'm officially down two now.

So you just have to lose 2 more in 1.5 years and stay within the mileage, then claim your free lizard battery. Since the first is the largest loss, just start CHAdeMOing the snot out of it in the heat. :-)

A quick browse of cars.com show some interesting LEAF deals. 2015 new LEAF SL for under $20K. If it's really new, then the $7,500 tax credit applies, meaning $12,495 net for a brand new car (alas, not the bigger battery 2016):

Speaking of 2016, here's the first 2016 I've seen locally:

Well, I followed up on this one and it's a lease deal. They took the tax credit into account in the advertised price. A bit deceptive in my mind.

Not really surprised. I didn't like my experiences shopping at Hendrick which is why I didn't buy there.

Of course, buying a Leaf is totally the wrong thing. Always lease, wish I had.

Found myself chasing a dark grey color Leaf this afternoon in local traffic up here in the Northland. Had a custom plate, something about Ohm's Law. I have forgotten exact details already. Pulled up next to him at light. We waved.

Anyhow, Leafs are getting more common. Anyone happen to know who that was? Leaf drivers with custom plates are not uncommon I suspect, and his tag was unusual enough that I suspect he's techie of some sort.

I've been absent for a while. I must have missed a email notification of activity (which usually triggers me to come and visit) and then I started assuming the thread was dead. Nice to see it isn't. Missed Karl's cabin air filter event. Hope it was a success.....

I work at St Lukes on Plaza now. Charge at the QC on Plaza once in a while for longer distance excursions. Has been blocked only once and that time by another Leaf. Wish people would put their cell phone number in the dash if they are going to leave the vehicle unattended....

Happy New Years to you all, belated....

Hi Dr. H,

Somehow the notifications on MNL are not what they used to be. I just got into the habit of checking, and apparently I'm having a great conversation with myself a few messages above. :-) I suspect the notification issues is why there has been less traffic.

I met a fellow engineer named Graham a few weeks back in a grey 2015 while we were both at the DCQC at the Zona Rosa HyVee. I didn't check his plate that day to see if that is his.

I also saw a LEAF in Liberty a few days ago that I hadn't spotted before. I tried waving furiously and giving a thumbs up from my Tesla, but his eyes never left the windshield. Oh well.

I QCd at the Plaza last Saturday and left my "OK to unplug" hanger (shameless plug: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TakeChargeandGo ) on the rear window. Sure enough, another LEAF took me up on it. They didn't call the number on the sign, but took the plug, which is OK with me. So I gave him a hanger and we parted, each having done their part for charging etiquette.

Also, I'm seeing quite a few 2013s and even a 2014 LEAF coming off-lease on cars.com. It's tempting to trade up for the 6.6KW charger, heat pump, and B-mode, but then again when LEAF 2.0 come out, there will be some 2016s with 30kWh battery to be snatched up.

Some time I'd still like to get together and swap out the receptacle on the 2 X 110V --> 220V adapter I got from you.

TTFN,

Karl
