Now that our fourth year has ended, I have started a new thread
to use for the next (fifth) year, since this one has grown too long:

"SoCal Branch LEAF-Gatherings ... (Year 5, starts September 2014)"
http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=17823" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

---------------------
Our Forth Year of Gatherings begins here.

Our LEAF family is growing up, with some of our family evolving
with the times, and now arriving in their Rav4EV, or Tesla EVs.
As with any good family, we welcome and enjoy the "growing up",2
since it enriches the group, and provides a better perspective
of the future.

So, the LEAF title for the Gathering evolves to "LEAF & EV"
until we think of something better.

Join us for a Saturday morning breakfast buffet at Hometown Buffet,
or some other location (see below), or for some other special event.

Nominally, we Gather from about 8:15 until about 11:00 AM, but some will arrive
at about 8:00 and some may stay later, if there is enough interest. Some come
for just a while, but have to leave early because they have a "real" life. :D

I usually try to arrive by 8:00, and am usually among the last to leave.
HTB opens for Breakfast at 8:00, and transitions to their Lunch menu at about 11:00.

Usually, we LEAF-Gather on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month,
but that is often modified to fit the holidays in the month.
Occasionally we have Local Clusters for special events at different locations.

------------ Locations -------------

Hometown Buffet on 17th in Santa Ana:
Located just 2 blocks East of I-5 on 17th street in Santa Ana
1008 EAST 17TH STREET
SANTA ANA, CA 92701
Phone: (714) 541-3020
Their "breakfast" hours are from 7:30 until 11:00 (when "lunch" begins").
I plan to arrive between 8 and 8:30, and stay until at least 11.

Hometown Buffet in Cerritos:
About 0.2 miles east of the 605 freeway. Use the "South Street" exit about a mile south
of the 91 freeway, going east to 11471 South Street. The HTB is north of South Street,
"hidden" behind other buildings in the shopping center.

Cerritos Nissan:
18707 Studebaker Road, just west of 605. Take the first exit south of 91 (South St),
and go west one short block, turning right (north) onto Studebaker Road.
About 0.2 miles north, turn left onto Auto Square Dr. and then left again into Cerritos Nissan.

They have three L2 charging stations, but the two in front are often in use.
They have one QC machine that requires activation by an RFID fob that they keep inside.
After hours, they typically block the entrances to the lot with "blocker" cars.
But, at least when I asked nicely, they were friendly, and helpful in activating the QC.
So, basically charging is only available during business hours.

------------- Misc ------------------
Suggestions Welcome

Next Gathering is one week from today, at the Hometown Buffet
in Cerritos, two lights East of 605, "on" (a half block North of)
South Street in the shopping center.

Have there been any issues with the GID-Meters that we updated
at the last Gathering? There is a User Manual (Instructions) posted
at http://www.wwwsite.com/puzzles/socmeter/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for your amusement.

Have a safe Holiday weekend.

As you discover new LEAF owners, or interested kindred spirits,
invite them to join us for our breakfast Gathering.

Next Gathering in 3 days and 3 hours.
See you there, for breakfast at the Hometown Buffet in Cerritos.

Android phones and OBD dongles.
Firmware update for GID-Meter.

A good spirited meeting, with 9 folks. The Jolomo QC plug,
with its silver-plated pins and latch was a big hit, and there
was much discussion of the mini-QC project and surplus
power supplies.

Tom looked great, thanks to the super-suntan treatments.
Thanks all for attending.
Cheers, Gary

I can help staff the booth at Long Beach, as long as there are others and I won't be stuck in the booth the whole time. I'd really like some time to walk around and look at the other cars there and take pictures, chat with owners.

I probably won't be able to make the afternoon date in Diamond Bar.

Charging near HTB in Cerritos (across the freeway):

QC at Cerritos Nissan:
18707 Studebaker Road, just west of 605. Take the first exit south of 91 (South St),
and go west one short block, turning right (north) onto Studebaker Road.
About 0.2 miles north, turn left onto Auto Square Dr. and then left again into Cerritos Nissan.

They have three L2 charging stations, which seem to get a lot of use.

But, at least when I asked nicely, they were friendly, and helpful in activating the QC.

I will come down to the event and help out. I'll be leaving early so I can charge down there somewhere and then meet you guys there.

Our next Gathering is this coming Saturday at the
Hometown Buffet on 17th street in Santa Ana, just
2 blocks East of I-5.

Just 48 hours and 52 minutes to go.
See you there, and demonstrate the Arduino Due.

How many charge stops are you planning there and back? I was considering going and helping out, but with my level of degradation, it would require too many stops to be time effective for me, particularly on the way back, so I'll just hang out at the event in Northridge...

My pack is still 95% so I can go all the way down to Newport Beach on 1 charge if needed and have... Funny that the wife takes the Leaf down to Santa Monic early Sat mornings for marathon training and she'll blow through 70% each way

Anyways.. my plan was this.. cruise down the 405... goto the Port of LA admin building.. 425 S. Palos Verdes Street, San Pedro

They have 4 Clip Creeks.. chill for abit of 7.2kw L2 and then go right over to the event a few miles away.

That way I have alot of charge if rides are wanted.. then go back, peak out and drive all the way home.

Nice to still have a decent pack AND a faster charger... :)

Do you have DCQC/CHAdeMO? I thought I was like the only one?

You're degraded enough not to make it down 41 miles?

Carson Nissan is right down there with DCQC. We could also drive down and you hit up the DCQC and I'll hook up at L2 there..

I might be a bit longer at L2

Yeah, we are Coast Guard Auxiliary members and go down to the base in San Pedro from time to time. I'd stop at Carson for a QC when we used to take the Leaf... Getting down is not the issue, getting back is, and simply has become too much of a crap shoot to be worth it with our current battery capacity... Being a government installation, no charging on the base of course...

I signed up to be in Long Beach at 7:30 to help set up, but should be able to do a shift in the booth after that.

See you'all tomorrow!

Since the first Saturday in October might be busy with the
Great Park Solar "festival", should we have Gatherings
on the 12th and 26th?

Thoughts or suggestions?

Either pair of dates would work, Gary.
We're planning the Great Park meetup for Sunday the 6th, so having the Cerritos gathering on Saturday the 5th would be okay.
Or we could go with the 12th and the 26th if people want. (I'm busy on the 19th, so I can't make that meeting, but that's fine).
